I have an XD45 subcompact. I carry a Glock every day, but I love the safety features on the Springfield. I would recommend it to anyone since you can literally look at it sitting on the ground and tell if a round is chambered, and you pretty much have to be holding it correctly for it to fire.
And you're another person talking about Crossbreed holsters. I need to get an order in!

Yeah I love the features it has! I am very pleased with it. I got a Foxx holster from Ebay. The leather is cow hide instead of horse hide, but other than that it functions the same as a cross bread and I had it within a week. Another good option is Keyhole holsters. They did my kydex holster in the picture but also do fully custom hybrid holsters with custom color/ engravings. Let me know if you want to order and I can give you a 10% off coupon code.

When you're ready to quit dicking around with holsters and just buy one that works and will be comfortable:

    http://garrettindustries.mybigcommerce.com/

Silent Thunder, one belt clip, far more comfortable than any Crossbreed style. Holds your carry piece without scratching up the finish and is a more secure carry as well.

    Thank me later...

Have you ever looked at a Cleveland Holster? Many different positions and angles. If you dont like it....full refund. I carry a M&P 45c and mine fits the 45c/40c/9c exactly alike. I also have a blackhawk serpa for my 9c. Looked and looked for a blackhawk serpa for my 45c and I guess they do not make one, so I got the full size cut it down and melted the edges. I am all about concealed carry and really like my Cleveland and like the kydex belt clips. I am not sure if any of the suppliers metal clips are as good as the kydex ones....anyone have an opinion on the belt clips for the IWB holsters?

To me that's more unsafe than anything. I always keep my system the same so that i never second guess myself. There is always one in the chamber for me. I never want to have to think about something like that if i ever had to use my gun.

Just my .02 if thats what works for you stick with it!

    ... ^^^ ... I agree and this is funny because ....

We have a morning breakfast club with ages from 50s to mid 90s. Mostly retired military (E-3 to O-6) and retired business individuals.

Anyway, this guy who is 87 y/o was in the USN in WW2 and had to carry deposits to the bank from the commissary (both on base).

Well, the postmaster asked him why he did not have a .45 side arm. He said he was never issued one .... SOOOO ...

They issued him a .45 with NO AMMO and he was NOT allowed to carry ammo or load his .45 either ...

Luckily, he was never robbed on base.

I normally carry with a chambered round, however I have recently made the decision to not have a round chambered. The reason is because I don't have any retention on the IWB holster that I use. I have a toddler, so I feel more comfortable with a non-chambered gun if I have to pick her up and hold her on my hip. Also, if I came across a threat it would take less than a second to chamber a round. Hopefully that microsecond won't be to the threat's advantage. However, the first rule of a gun fight is simply to have a gun.

Yes unless you are in a similar situation as George Zimmerman. Round chambered for me!

Never. I can chamber a rd. as a pull from holster.
If that .5 sec delay costs me my life then I was too damn slow to recognize the threat and Darwinism wins.

What good does an unloaded gun do in the split second between peace and violence? But then again, the only safety most of my pistols have is a trigger safety and awareness.

Situational. Round chambered makes a lot more sense (unless someone isn't comfortable with their level of training with the pistol). I do not recommend that someone carrying their first pistol ever keeps one in the chamber until they are comfortable and have trained with their pistol.

And that whole, "it only takes me a second" point is somewhat silly to me. That only makes sense if the threat is far enough away and gives you a heads up before attacking you (or others). Go to an MMA gym that trains with dummy pistols or a pistol course that actually trains you with more than shooting at a range and have two guys jump you and pin ya down. Tell me you can even get to your weapon let alone rack it haha good luck.

Moral of the story: Train with your pistol.

If you're not training you're not much good to anyone with it anyway. Going to the range a couple times a year doesn't count for much in a crap situation.

It takes less than half a second for an individual to draw on you and fire (this is a proven fact...... http://www.forcescience.org/fsinews...easonable”-
in-armed-suspect-encounters-more/). Why would you put yourself at an even greater disadvantage? See above coments about the gun being a rock without bullets.
I hope also that the "microsecond" won't be to the threats advantage (which it is, see above), your toddlers life may depend on it (just a generalized comment).

And the first rule of a gun fight is not to have a gun, it's to have a LOADED gun.

I'm with you and carry with one chambered. However, I am not comfortable with some noob who refuses to train and plays all these hero scenarios in his/her head doing the same. People are always the hero in their head. Then things go down and they suck.

To say that everyone should carry with a round chambered is just as ignorant as to say that no one should. Situational. However, I don't know a single person who has been in a gunfight, trains for crap scenarios, or both, that doesn't keep one in at all times other than when cleaning the things ha.

Case in point noted. The difference between life and being beaten senseless/to death. A gun without a round in the chamber is an expensive club/rock. Also, the 1911 is a single action pistol, so without being cocked and locked and ready to rock it is basically useless as a defensive weapon.

People who are not competent/familiar with firearms probably feel as if not keeping one in the chamber is safer when in actually it's far from it if you ever need to use it for what it was designed for.

PS. I have kids also, who recieve limited instruction on how to handle firearms at home and how NOT to touch guns or let their friends look at any that we own without an adult present. That and a safe makes them just as safe as riding in a vehicle with a seatbelt on.

My 11 year old brother trains with me. Ha he doesn't pick up a single weapon without chamber checking it and knows how to clear a weapon of he needs to. I'd be willing to bet he is more safe and more calm around guns than most adults I know. Kid can shoot and move too :D

    This.

I'm shaking my head at the guys who think they'll be able to draw and rack their weapon in a single fluid motion when SHTF. Most gun fights involve people within a few feet of each other and shooting in someone's general direction instead of aiming with your sights. Do you really think you're going to be able to draw, rack the weapon, and hit your target while facing a gun a few feet away? (Hint: the answer is no, you're going to lose) If you're lying on one of your arms, or someone has a hold of you, you're royally screwed.
One guy said if he loses, oh well, he'll just decide it was Darwinism. Wow. If you can't carry a gun with enough discipline to not pull the trigger until you're ready, then you shouldn't be carrying one at all.

When i start carrying i'm going to carry chambered because i don't know if i'll be wounded in one arm, or blocking blows while i draw, theres to many variables for me to think that i'll be able to have both hands available or have the time to catch the sites on my clothes to rack the slide.

I voted no, I have never once in my life found myself in a situation where I even thought I would need to shoot a person in less than a second. I have seen guns discharge in car accidents, motorcycle accidents and stupid mistakes. Everytime I thought, "why would you chamber a round to drive to store? or to dinner?" I have to go with the odds on this one. You are more likely to shot someone you don't want to than some one you do, or to get shot yourself. Kind of think I will be in the vast minority here but thats just my opinion.
