Trans & Tcase Breathers (factory)

Today I spent some time looking at the Tcase & Auto trans breather. I found the trans one. There is a nipple coming off the top of the trans, and it runs as a metal line forward for about 12" and transitions into rubber hose that goes to a odd looking breather that is bolted on the back of the driver side cylinder head. As for the Tcase I saw 2 small vacuum lines coming off the top that Y'd into 1 small vacuum line and it ran forward to the top of the bell housing and I couldn't it anymore. Does anyone know if that's the Tcase vent and where does it go?

To my knowledge the both run up under the hood next to the front drivers side fender. Thats on second Gens.

Is the front diff breather relocated from factory? I picked up stuff at Lowes yesterday to relocate 3 diffs if need be, but if the only one that needs moving is the rear, that'd save me some time.

 

I'd love to know if the front even has a breather. I can't find it.

 

You need only do the rear as the others are in the engine compartment.

 

so the Tcase is the 2nd smaller vent on the drivers fender?

 

I just went take it all apart. The two line together are for the front diff. The large line goes to the diff and the small one goes to my actuator. The trans line runs up to the housing on the trans and stops there doesn't come all the way up just part of the way.

 

Luk8272- This brings me back to my original Q. Where is the Tcase vented?

 

Ok just went back out. It is tied or clamped next to the trans breather. Located at the housing of the transmission.

Recap:
The two lines near the drivers fender are the Front diff(Larger) and Actuator(Small)
Near transmission housing is the Trans breather(Large) and the Transfercase breather(Small).

 

Luk- could the small line coming off the Tcase be from the actuator?

 

I am not understanding your question.
Are you saying that the line coming off of the transfer case ties into the front diff actuator?

Each line is seperate. The trans line doesn't tie into any other lines, it is just clamped next to the Tcas, as the actuator and front diff lines are seperate and clamped together.
If that is not what you are saying you can pm me to explain better if you don't wish to do so on the thread. I can check on my truck as you ask.

 

Here is what we have figured out, for those looking later.

The actuator for the Tcase has a line running into the Tcase. The Tcase has 2 lines comming out that "Y" into 1 then follows the Transmission breather line to the transmission housing where the are both clamped.

The front differential and Diff actuator run up to the drivers side fender.

The rear diff breather is on the top drivers side of the diff. (Not exteded from factory)

I can never find those threads when I need them. But hey I learn better by going out there and seeing for myself anyways. Now I won't likely forget.
