Ever since buying my 2009 v6 auto TRD-OR it has displayed an annoying habit.

Scenario: Turning from most main through streets where the speed limit is approx. 35-50mph onto a residential side street where the speed limit is lower.

Annoying Habit: The trans will downshift to what feels like first gear, engine will increase RPMs by about 1,000 suddenly, then it will quickly shift back to what feels like where it actually should have been for the turn.

Truck had 42k on it when purchased, now has 53k. Came with full Toyota Certified Used warranty. 2 different dealer service depts. told me it was "normal". 1 of them told me the transmission would "learn" my driving habits after a while and the sudden downshift would go away. Also mentioned possibly "reprogramming" the transmission. I talked with the original owner and he mentioned it had done this since new. Obviously, the trans has not "adjusted itself"!

So, given my dislike for dealing with dealer service depts., figured I would first ask if any of you have experienced this? And, if so, how you dealt with it?

Damn I hate it when the stealership says "it's normal" !!

Has your truck had the tranny reflash TSB done or the Brake Override software / pedal chop recall done ?

There is a reflash TSB that will correct it. I remember when mine used to do that.

    Fixed my issue

FWIW , it's paired with the Brake Override reflash / pedal chop now

    It's part of that recall

There is a brake override software that Toyota developed after the " unintended acceleration / stuck gas pedal " fiasco

It gives the brake pedal precedence over the throttle if they are pushed at the same time

If you've had the pedal chop , they've done the brake override software reflash too

So basically , you should already have the tranny TSB reflash software onboard

What does having the tranny reflash on board mean? It's easier for the dealer tomorrow?

I went in and requested the tranny reflash tsb. They scheduled me for 8am. Said it would be $100 since im at 89k miles. Called back and mentioned extended warranty. Should be no charge now. Better be free. Why do you ask? Dealers seem hesitant to do tsb in my opinion.

I'm just suprised because I'm 100% certain that TSB is not a standalone procedure anymore and if you already had the pedal chop recall done you should have already had the tranny reflash done when they loaded the brake override software which is part of that recall

At the Stealership waiting now. They're trying to wiggle out of the 100k mile bumper to bumper platinum fidelity Toyota warranty. I purchased it in Virginia and since I'm in Georgia now they're claiming that they use a different company for coverage. Bullsh!t

Wouldn't reflash. Claim they can't duplicate the issue.
