Elevated Bed Light...Bracket opinion

Hi guys,

I have these LED light bars I bought a long while back and would like to use one of them as a bed light. But I'd like it to be elevated and looking downwards to have a larger beam. I held it up to two positions I'm thinking. But any experience on bed light positioning other than below the rails as many do?

The tall light can be supported by a bent U-bracket that attaches to the bed rail and goes around the window opening to allow window clearance.

Ideas? Opinions?

I'd rig it up to the 3rd brake if I were you. Higher up should mean more light in more bed.
Try a test fit with the light on in both spots so you can compare the throw patterns maybe?

Also, take lots of pictures so that I can copy it.

 

Here's the bracket idea I had, would have to be strong (flex/wobble concerns), and perhaps can be half the loop of its strong enough...Kind of like those light mounts that go over rear door mounted spare tires.

I has thinking more a bracket that rigged into the 3rd brake itself. I'll have to take a look at how it is secured before I can be of more help though.

 

I was thinking mount with some 3m automotive dual stick. Or the heavy Velcro like what holds on easy pass.

 

Yes it is big, so I think a one sided mount would be pushing it in size even.

Don't know about using the 3rd brake light, has only two small philips screws and would also interfere with the seal around it. Don't want to have issues with water entry...

Sure would be nice to have it high, nice for tailgating too since the light can pivot.

A roll cage would probably be the most badass way to mount the light haha.

 

Don't feel it'd be a sturdy mount that would last, the light is bit hefty. Seems it also would make it easily yank-able for a quick steal.

 

I think that would be awesome. I was going to build a headache rack at one point and mount two smaller cheapo fogs up high like that.

 

So you used like a seal tape all around the opening? And the 2 screws are strong enough to hold some weight?

 

Just build a whole headache rack..

Nah. It would protect the rear window, provide a place for rear lights. Front lights, CB antenna, and beer opener.
