Possibly trading in Nissan Xterra for a Tacoma

So I started off in 2010 looking for a Tacoma but ended up getting a Rav4 Sport V6 instead as we needed funds to buy a house. Work went better than expected and in 2011 I gave the Rav4 to the wife and picked up a new Nissan Xterra Pro-4X (both vehicles financed at 0%). Well here we are in 2013 and the recent renovations to the house have reinforced that a truck would be really handy. So I am once again looking at a new Tacoma double cab V6 TRD Sport model. Toyota Canada is offering 0.9% for 4 years which isn't great but isn't a deal breaker either. What I'm wondering is if Toyota is expected to release a 3rd generation Tacoma anytime soon? My Xterra is still in perfect shape and I don't NEED a new truck right away. Would it be worth holding off or would you just buy a Tacoma now if it were you? (yes, I realize I am asking this question of a bunch of Tacoma owners!)

Great question. I would like to know this as well. Either way, pull the trigger sounds like you should have from the start.

Have you had to burrow a friends or buds truck quite a few times? Have to rent a truck from Home Depot or other home improvement store? If yes than get the Tacoma. No word about a true 3rd gen, nothing revealed at the LA auto show.

Get a Tacoma if you wait till a redesign then the issues will be greater than they are with the current second gen

I'd wait, you're going to take a bath on that X-terra if you trade it in or sell it. Rent or borrow a trailer if you need to haul big items.

My brother is an engineer for Toyota in MI, he says the new Tacoma should be out in 2014 or 2015.

Sorry I was on the road and not paying attention when I wrote that. 2015. He works in lighting and said the new taillights are a nice upgrade.

I own a 2006 xterra, and a 2012 taco. I say keep the x, buy a small trailer. Altho the x has almost 200000 km, I still enjoy driving it more, and it gets better mileage.

x2, the Tacoma is not great for hauling building materials unless you add a contractor rack. A 5x10 trailer makes moving lumber, sheet goods and bulk items much easier.

Wait until you go to sell your Tacoma or trade it in....you'll be happier than if you had the F-150

0.9% is good, not great. Nissan gave me 0% for 72 months. That's great.

I appreciate the responses. A utility trailer had crossed my mind but in the summers we do a lot of camping. I tow a T@b travel trailer and between all of our gear and having three dogs in the back of the X I constantly find that I don't have enough space for things like firewood or my gun cases and skeet thrower. These are things the utility trailer won't help with. Sorry, should have mentioned that before.

Well, Toyota made it worth my while. They are delivering the new Tacoma (the dealership is 5 hours away) so I will once again be a Toyota owner in about 3 hours.
