    Long time, no post!

My son just turned 16 and I gave him my 2010 Taco. I have considered a Tundra, but I like the Taco better.

I inquired about an engine swap long ago, and am curious if this is being done successfully, and get an idea on costs associated.

    Thanks for the info.

LS swap is probably easier and has been done a few times. Aftermarket for the LS is much greater than the 5.7

Anything is possible with $$$ and fab time, speed freek, a SD member dropped a ls1 into his 1st gen 5 lugger.

You could try pming some of the mechanics on the site, speed freek and bamatoy1997 (?) are the 2 mechanics I know the best on here.

I hear you on the LS, but I want to keep it all Toyota.

I took the Snugtop off today for my son, because he said he didn't like it. I put that on the week I bought the truck, and today was the first day that I had seen it with the Road Armor front and rear bumpers, 285/75/16s riding on KMC Enduros (with OME suspension) since I did all of that a few weeks after the top went on. I have to say, it is one of if not the best looking Tacos I've ever seen.

Again, want to keep it all Toyota.

You might inquire with Gadget from URD. He deals a lot with Xrunners and Toyota improvements.

With the relatively poor MPG of the 4.0, that larger 5.7 may equal or exceed the MPG and overall performance once finished.

I would probably also consider putting in a different rear end to keep it fully reliable.

What's your end goal? If it's power, you can modify the V6 and make it put out some pretty serious power for less money than the swap and it's also a lot less complicated, keeping you away from custom fabrication.

    ^^^^^^^^

Possible to get 500HP out of our V6, will take some work and probably less painless than a full swap.

I have had TRD Superchargers on my last two Tacos, an 01 and a 10. I like the power, but with 33s and heavy bumpers, power gets robbed. How easy is, or should I ask reliable is it to squeeze additional power out? Can it be done with factory Superchargers, or is it easier with URD?

    Please explain for a novice!

I would go URD Stage 3, full exhaust (headers, mid-pipe and cat-back) and UCON EMS. Obviously, this all isn't cheap be neither is buying the 5.7L engine and all the custom fabrication and wiring that goes along with making it fit into a Tacoma. Plus, you'll be able to find real world results, installation tips and tuning tips on the URD setup where as the 5.7L swap, you'll be pretty much flying blind.

If this is something you're interested in, I would recommend spending some time researching on XRUnderground and talking to people like Torspd and Gadget (TW member from URD).

More stupid questions...but first some info.

I have the TRD Supercharger and Borla Catback exhaust.

How much more power can I expect from the URD setup described above? Most importantly, I need reliability...is this setup RELIABLE? How easy is it to squeeze additional power from the TRD supercharger...or is it easier/better to go the URD route?

The only way you are going to get reliability out of the URD is forged internals. Which again is more money. you can push 450+ out of the URD stage 3 with tune. I believe the TRD S/C is 330HP IIRC

Talk to Gadget or Torspd about add-ons that would compliment the TRD S/C and exhaust since you already have them installed. I would imagine the UCON EMS, headers and y-pipe would compliment the parts you already have installed.

No, think about it, this is brilliant! The 16 y.o. will think his old man is the coolest guy on the planet for helping him build this thing up and, if the OP plans it right, he can prolong the project until the kid is well into his 20's by the time it's complete and ready to drive. Get the kid a beater car in the mean time with no balls. Win-Win :D

It's diabolical. I hadn't even thought about that. Kid loves dad but the truck is always down. Brilliantly played.
