    I don't know, i don't know if i need a truck the size of a f-150, but i'd be screwed if i needed a f-150 and had a taco.

i just want good off road capability for hunting, i've also seen my grandpa take his f-250 (4 door 4x4, 8' bed) some places in our wood that i'd never have gone.

Hey Jake, your kinda on apples and oranges. There is really only a small window of stuff that a full size will pull that a 2nd gen won't. 4k or less all the time up to 6k once in awhile your good. I wouldn't put more than 7500 on the regular on the or 10k once in awhile on the full size. Have you thought about getting a beater 1st gen or pre-taco for a hunting truck? You could probably snag one of those for the price of upgrades on a new truck. Tell your parents you would take 14k truck and 3k cash, it saves them a grand. LOL

i know  i just want the perfect truck and i don't know what it is.
Dad and Grandpa want me to get what i want, dad told me to not worry about MPG or insurance costs, only to worry about, reliability, and durability.

it also has to tow a trailer (no idea what kind, but i think either a 20ft flatbed with 2 7,000 lb axles on it, or a 21.5 ft boat that weighs #4500) from here to MISS. when we move.

yeah i've thought about it, but i asked dad and he said he'll sell his 4runner and get a 1st gen tundra for our around town/ hunting truck, but i'd still have to use my truck occasionally.

my family will pay up to 16k, and i'm counting on money from selling my truck to cover the other 2k.

before i decide on anything i need to test drive one, but i'm not sure if i can at a dealership since i only have a permit.

You know just enough to be confused...

SO why do you need a big truck exactly? The size diff between the Ford and 2nd get Yoda are negligible.

As a professional tech I can say the Ford will most likely need more repairs due to what I see on a day to day basis, I love Fords because I work on them a lot, wouldnt own one for a daily driver after all the issues I see, but they keep me paid, lol.

As far as towing I have had a trailer weighing approx 3400# and also had 2 bikes and 2 gearbags in the back along with fuel, water, and a full extra cab of stuff, pulled it just fine
I also pull my Mid travel Jeep behind it with all my bikes gear and camping stuff and the Jeep weighs in the mid 4500# range, and I also put an extra bike on the Joe Hauler on the back..

They can tow just fine! I think this was when I had the 2RZ turboed on a stock motor.

    that is impressive.

what are the problems you see in the fords? i'm gonna ask on the ford forum what the most common breakdowns are.

First of all, lets look at a Tacoma VS an F150 in 5 years time and see who's is worth more. Resale is HORRIBLE. My buddy bought a ranger, a year later I guess the dealer he bought from was having horrible prior year model sales or something, and they called to tell him they'd take like 6 grand less than he bought his for on a trade in if he bought a new one.
