Yes you will.....nothing is forever, especially vehicles.
Between 17 and 22 yrs old I probably had 7 different cars and/or trucks.

Expect it is only gonna be around for a few years..and dont act like this thing needs to be the last vehicle you ever have.

As far as FORD problems, Spark plugs can end as a major repair if they get stuck or break off, had a few like that. Timing chain kit is VERY labor intensive to replace, I have done a couple, they start to rattle really bad.
Coil packs die OFTEN, replaced probably 50 of them over the past 7 years.

Thats just some stuff. I vote for Toyota 1st gen, but do as you wish. If you get the 1st gen you will have thousands left over to put into it and make it a badass truck, just makes sense to me..

crap, i forgot about the spark plugs, is that on the 5.4, 4.6 or both?

At least its a chain and not a belt, still sounds like a PITA.

Coil packs aren't that bad, i don't know how much $$$ they are though, and there's always the option of going to the pick and pull.

I'd go 1st gen except 1 thing, interior size, the front is comfortable, for me (6'4'' 250) but the back seat has 6'' less legroom vs the ford (both 4 door).

Hey man, too each their own...I just would rather buy something that I know has reliability and so much more than something I hope I'm gonna love.

and the reliability aspect is whats killing me, the taco i know i could get 250k miles out of without major repairs, if any, the ford i dunno, i'll know if i love it when i start test driving.
i also knocked the chevy out of the list, to many recalls, and it wasn't that impressive in interior space.

If you've never been to Big Sur, I would say do that trip. It's a pretty amazing place! Even crazier in the winter time when you're there at the beach, and there is snow at your campsite!

yeh that is definitely my first choice hopefully I can figure it out. I wouldn't know of any spots to go to, makes me want to go on a weekend recon mission before I gather up the girls and gear. Have any specific spots you like?

My buddy has a Silverado 1500, and honestly I'm not impressed in the least. The interior just looks so...work truck...

Why aren't you looking into a Tundra if you want a FS? I test drove one of those, a 5.7L limited edition CrewMax...was pretty impressed, it definitely had the power I wish my Taco had, (and hopefully will someday, fingers crossed for S/C) just really don't want a FS. Interior was pretty nice, suspension looked exactly like a Tacoma, only bigger :D, and the mod's started swirling around in my head as I drove it. Then I remembered my buddy bought a 2011 recently and said, its as awesome as I hoped it would be, except for this Going from a midsize to a fullsize, the biggest change is that the cost for aftermarket stuff jumps up ALOT.

i'm not a fan of the 08+ tundys, but i am looking at the 00-07, the tradeoff between the tundy and the ford is i gain size (good and bad, i gain interior space :woot: but i also gain 7 inches of length to the truck , and lose tow capacity and power.
i am going to test drive one though.

If you buy a 4.6 I'll come steal it to save you the trouble of being disappointed the whole time you have it. Don't forget the blend door problems.

You can just buy a toy first gen and pull it with the stockish second gen. Problem solved.

Big Sur is a pretty huge place with tons of campgrounds and tons of trails. I have only been there twice backpacking so I could only see so much of it.

What I would do is just pick up a map of the area with all the campgrounds, and pick 1 or 2 spots that look/sound fun for what you and or your family/friends want to do. Some sites have showers/bathroom/water, and some have absolutely nothing..

Google maps of all the campgrounds:

    you have the 5.0?
i don't mind doing a little bit of work, theres always family thats willing to help if it gets complicated.

my grandpa has a old f-150 with the 5.0, 2wd AC, he rebuilt the motor once, and he's done some other work to it, but i like that truck, he just neglects it.

Both my exploders are 5.0s bought from the original owners, both women. Just Fix Or Repair Daily is pretty close. I have 3 fords counting the motorhome. First gen tundra would be nice. Its basically a torquey 2nd gen LOL
