What kind of lift is this?

Hey everyone, I've been a hunter and gatherer for a while on here taking in the plethora of knowledge that people have. Search has been my friend!

I recently traded in my 2006 Tacoma for an 08 dc that is lifted and am trying to figure out what kind of lift it has. Here are some pics of the truck and close-ups of the lift. Sorry for the crappy cell pics but that's all I got for the moment. Thanks for the help.

That will be done soon. It does look great, but doesn't ride as well as my last which was stock. This explains it.

I will definitely be getting something different soon as I never go to the mall.

 

Looks like a spacer lift. Perfectly decent lift. Might ride a little rough and not the best way to go if your a serious offroader. Looks good though.

 

Is there anything that I can use from this lift to piece together a more off-road friendly setup? I am trying to minimize the cost. Thanks for all the help guys!

 

Your front coils with 5100's. Tons of people run 5100's with stock coils and are very happy with the ride, including myself. The biggest change you can make in improving your ride is to get rid of that spacer on stock shocks.

Also, since you're trying to minimize cost, just keep the block in the back and get some 5100's back there too.

 

I'd go with an add a leaf over the block personally

 

That will cost more than free.

 

Hey man! I have the same lift. Im getting a 1.5" aal for the rear and bilstein 5100 shocks for the rear. For the front im replacing the spacer with bilstein 5100's (set to 0) with OME 885x coils and a 1/4" drivers side spacer. Its about a $600 replacement, and is perfect for on road and some offroad.

So will 5100's for the rear. Without knowing what the OP does with his truck, blocks may not be the way to go.

 

Did you read OP's posts? He already has blocks, and wants to minimize cost.

 

Sure did. Blocks are paid for i.e. already on the truck. Rear 5100's are not paid for i.e. not already on the truck. AAL can be sourced from many different places cheaper than keeping the "free" block and adding 5100's. I'm with Kmok on this one.

 

Thanks for all the help. I would like to do more off road. I have a good tire setup and the lift height is nice, but want a more off-road friendly setup, while minimizing cost.

Do the blocks minimize travel in the rear? If so, I'm sure that will need to be replaced.

Sounds like 5100's all the way around should be sufficient? If possible, I don't really want to lose the height it's at now. Thanks again for all your help. I've been searching like crazy and it's taking a bit for me to learn the abbreviations and such.

 

My vote for little to moderate wheeling on a budget would be some Bilstein 5100's for the front set at 0 or .85" and some new coils for the front, 884x's or 885's depending on bumper/ winch setup's in the future. As far as the rear, ditch the block and get a decent progressive AAL (Add A Leaf) for the rear. Allot of people run blocks without problems, but they never did anything good for a leaf spring.

 

The blocks don't limit travel since they're underneath the springs, but there's always the potential to induce other stresses when under load into the axle since they're raising the spring up several inches.

You can get by if you do light offroading, but anything other than that and I'd look at a different setup.
