Will that combo get you a 3" lift?

Are you saying to get this?

    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/Bilstein-Adjustable-lift-kit-with-5100-shocks_p_132.html

Any slightly more affordable ideas, or anything from this I don't need?

Yes, an AAL will not be free, but the OP wants his supspension to be more offroad friendly. Blocks tend to crack and break. An AAL will provide lift and improve the current leaf pack and AALs are not very expensive. If you're going to add 5100s you might as well throw on an AAL too.

That is a decent kit and is not too expensive. Going without the eibachs and reusing the stock springs would make it cheaper. I've heard some people don't mind/like the 5100s at 2.5 and stock springs but I've also heard people say it rides stiff. An AAL will also stiffen up the ride a bit. A progressive AAL will be better than a single AAL.

Going cheap and lifting your truck will require some compromises, but 5100s with stock springs and an aal is probably the best, cheapest lift without using crapy blocks or spacers.

Primarily I'm using it as typical family transportation rig to and from work/picking up the half pint.

Ideally I want a good all around truck that I can go anywhere (within reason of course). Something off-road capable that I could go out on the occasional meet and not be a thorn in peoples side because my truck can't handle getting places.

I can deal with noise or humming, I don't drive that much and don't go on super long trips often enough for it to bother me. So, that aspect isn't an issue for me. I have big plans in the future for the truck (as I'm sure we all do). I'm just getting my feet off the ground.

Somewhat vague, but hopefully it gives you an idea.

Gives me a pretty good idea. As stated previously, the Billies set @ 2.5 with the stock springs will be a bit stiffer than the factory setup due to the preload on the spring. It's what I run on mine and don't have a problem at all with it. A progressive AAL can be thrown together with some springs from a salvage yard or new from places like http://downsouthmotorsports.com/i-4...oma-6-lug-05-current-rear-add-a-leaf-kit.html
If you are comfortable working on your own truck I'd say Billies for the front @ 2.5", stock coils, and build your own AAL. You could come out of it for around $200.00- $250.00 depending on sources for used springs and cost of new center aligning bolts for your now thicker leaf packs.

Just so I'm understanding correctly, get

    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/Front-height-Adjustable-5100-Bilstein-Shocks_p_21.html

and then build my own aal? Since I'm pretty knew to this whole thing and building my own seems like I could totally fubar things up, what constitutes a "progressive AAL"?

As Boone Taco suggested, downsouth motorsports is a good place to get 5100s. I've heard they're typically cheaper than other places. They will likely sell an add a leaf there as well. I believe there is a discount for tacomaworld members there, I would call them up. and are other good vendors to purchase from as well. I've purchased from Toytec multiple times and have had good experiences with them.

A progressive add a leaf includes multiple new leaves that are added to the stock leaf pack. is one on wheeler's website.

    http://downsouthmotorsports.com/i-1...le-shocks-05-2013-w-optional-rear-shocks.html Try this first.

Progressive AAL is very basically, a few thin leaves that are progressively shorter than the first that is installed under the last spring in your factory pack (not your overload). The link I posted previously may give you an idea of what I'm talking about. If you are the least bit concerned with doing it yourself you may want to weigh the savings vs. the cost of purchasing new. Not to scare you off, it is a easy job but if the piece of mind of buying new is worth the extra $ I say go new.

If I'm lifting 2.5'' in front with the 5100's will the progressive 1.5'' aal kit be equal lift? Is there any reason to go with the "heavy duty version"?

Whole new can o' worms here. Depends on if you like the factory rake and how much weight you want to be able to put in the bed. A standard progressive 1.5" AAL and 2.5" up front AAL wil get you pretty much level with a DC. If you want some added weight carrying capacity at the cost of a bit of flex go with the HD.

Just my .02 but whatever you gonna do in the rear new shocks are in order because the factory shocks on there now are to short since the lift w/blocks. Heading off road anytime soon and your gonna bottom the shock out.

If you do like the rake, set the Billies @ 1.75". But this goes against your not wanting to lose the height you have now. Your option to not lose the rake with the Billies @ 2.5" is to build your own progressive AAL, or get new leaf packs for the rear, such as Dakars, Alcans, etc. But that is more expensive than just a AAL.

Fixed that for you. A stock shock that is used in a lifted application will most likely top out (over extend), not bottom out (max compression).

I was just insinuating that it was to short, was really thinking about which way but thanks.
