I have the 5.38's and the truck is an auto 2.7l (same eng as you) but I know you have the manual. Mine is.. eh with 36"s... I am pretty sure I have less power now than I did before (engine is prob fucked) and I have bead locks to add weight to rotation.. I honestly think 5.13s will be too low, especially for 4Ds.

I wish my box was tapped there, then I could run a 90° fitting on the box itself...

*EDIT* finally found a source that looks solid saying the early bronco 44 came in around the mid 1970s....another fail attempt.

I know one guy who used an early bronco axle and converted the hubs...I work at les schwabs so maybe i could do it cheap.... idk
    It's out of a 69 bronco. He's pretty sure it's a 44.

But this guy said i can have it for 100 bucks...

Shoud I make the hour drive??

First of all... it's super hard to tell in the photo.. But they did not make the bronco D44 until 1971... All the others were the D30. (R&P) looks small in the photo as well. It almost appears to be a kingpin D30 as well... I would not buy it. It's not worth it.

Ironically right after I posted that my cousin called me ( the one building my lift ) and I told him I'm having a tough time getting an axle. He suddenly remembered he has a friend who may have a waggy lying around. I called his friend and the guy said its from a 1980s grand wagoneer driver drop with no vacuum actuator, he was gonna put it under his Nissan. Anyways we agreed on $200 = complete axle, plus springs and shock towers.

I'm heading to look at it this weekend.

For a second gen I would suggest a 78/79 KP.

While that one ('89 Ford) will work the pumpkin is slightly more towards the center of the axle than the 78/79 was. The 78/79 pumpkin tucks perfectly into the recess created for the stock diff.

Using an axle with a more centered pumpkin will cost you some uptravel/ride height sacrifices.
