What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

About to load up the gear for the next two days of wheeling and camping.

We haven't had so much a cloud in the sky for the past two months, but now all of a sudden the skies have opened up and it's coming down sideways. I damn near got stuck in the mud in my back yard

 

Got my new rims put on! They sure are shiney

 

Toe and camber are fine. Caster is not. Unfortunately, there may not be anything you can do about it until you install aftermarket UCAs. The lift is what has eliminated all of the caster adjustment.

There are many choices for replacement UCAs. My choice was Camburg's unibal design. It adds 2 degrees of positive caster by default. Soooo much better to drive. Totally eliminates that loose steering feel and adds up and down range as the unibal is less restrictive than a ball joint design.

 

I figured caster would be an issue from my reading. Can you explain what caster is and what it's effect is? I've read up on it some but the light bulb hasn't gone off yet. I understand toe and camber but caster is the one I'm not sure on. I'll keep UCA's in mind. What's a good number to shoot for on caster?

 

Simple explanation, pretend the part below is your spindle and not a strut



More + caster makes your steering wheel want to return to center, or track straight. The same reason your wheel does not return to center when you are going backwards

Ahh, it clicked now. I have seen that picture before and it didn't make sense because it's showing the strut, didn't think about the spindle lol.

Not yet. It took so long to get that light bar mount in and then all the stuff with my steering kind of snowballed so the grille stuff got put on the back burner. I promise I'll get to it eventually.

OMG every time I post them somebody says that lol. I've restored them a bunch of times and it comes back. I'm tired of doing it I want to get halo's eventually.

Try using some kind of clear coat after you polish them down the next time (if there is a next time). It'll help it not haze so quickly.

Depinstriped
Took tool box and mudflaps off
deckplate

My next update is a different bumper- I like the ARB, its just not "practical" for me and i like the prerunner style better. With that being said, if you're interested in swapping and willing too make a trip to northern OK we can trade straight across.

And not too mention previous owner mods, bilstiens, leaf packs and fairly new wranglers
