It was perfectly level, and no LSD sticker. Do you think snugging the bolts are good enough. Or does it need to be at the exact torque?

If you had the limited slip diff and didn't put the additive in, you'd know it. It'd make an awful noise going around turns.

As far as torquing things, that's a judgement call. Personally, I drain and refill the front, rear and x-fer case at the same time so I go around and hit them all with a torque wrench at the end for piece of mind.

Ok, keep us posted as I'm curious.
BTW how many miles are on your Taco? I have 53k on mine and changed my rear oil at 50k from factory fill. Bought the Taco with 47k. I also used Trans X since that was all that the parts stores carried. I wonder if the synthetic blend will make a difference over the dino. If I have no problems I'll change again in 30k.

Either way problems or no, I'll post here so you will know how the blend works. 30k will take me about 2 yrs of driving. Average about 12~15k a year.

I have 96K on my truck, I bought it with 64K back in 2010. I'm not sure if the differential fluid had been changed prior to me purchasing & I never had any issues with it but changed it at approx. 82K for regular routine maintenance purposes. Trans X was all I could find as well, I keep hearing synthetic for our differentials is not as good but I've heard both sides so who knows. I'm going to try Amsoil & hope for the best.

Valvoline DuraBlend isn't full synthetic. I had read the same as you, reason I chose the blend, it's a mixture of the 2. If it hadn't been changed since the factory you would see a grease marking on it from the factory like this one. Sorry not the best focus pic but you can see the blue, it was on my tranny fill plug from when they filled & torqued at the factory. I had the same on front & rear diff & transfer case fill plugs.

For the most part, yes. Many people just hand tighten their drain plugs. Usually, the issue is people tend to over tighten, causing damage to the threads or the differential, not under tighten. It's probably fine and if it's not leaking, I wouldn't mess with it until your next oil change. Even if you did over tighten, damage is done by now anyways.

OK, I got some Amsoil 80W-90 gear oil & about to get some Amsoil slip lock additive from a friend at work here shortly. I am going to change it out tonight & hope for the best! :D I had to wait until today due to money reasons & I CAN'T WAIT to drive my truck again, it's been almost a week!

I changed my rear differential oil with Amsoil 80w-90 synthetic plus Amsoil slip lock additive & once I drove it a bit & did some figure 8's to work it in the chattering has gone away...YES!!!!!! It seems that my problem is fixed & I'm thankful that it wasn't something more serious then just needing new fluid/additive. I'm hoping that I won't need to change it again for a minimum 30K. We'll see how it goes.

Glad the fluid change solved it. The way they feel with the chattering it feels like something terrible is happening to the truck, then you realize $30 and 30 minutes fixes the issue and all is good.
