Haha! You have to pay extra, but I'm just going to move important accessories like that over from the old engine.

Nice, let us know if you want to swing by. So far so good on our house... if we get it, we'll take ownership Aug 9, and we'll be moved in by the end of the month. It's on your way up assuming you go I-75.

naw we run 27 up. but we will be heading to Johnson City at some point to stay a couple days at her sisters house. Plus while Im there me and her brother in will prob pull a full detail on whatever car we drive up there. he is even more obsessed with high end polishes waxes and such than I am, mainly bc he is rich and can afford to purchase every single new product they come out with and then try them out and decide if he likes it.

Well shit. I realize this has no bearing on whether it's actually a bearing (HA HA HA) but the compression test looks pretty fucking good for a 16 year old engine. Spec according to haynes is 128psi minimum, 182 standard, 28psi max variance. I didn't warm the engine up, because I don't want to run it any longer than I have to, so these are cold pressures.

    Tested twice, got in order from #1 to #4: 170psi 155psi 180psi 152-ish PSI

Really debating whether to fix the exhaust leak just in case I don't need a new engine...

I'm about to buy a white DCSB or DCLB haven't decided yet. Anyway, where is there to wheel in Alabama (if any)? I'm travel there a decent bit. I will be buying in the next two to three weeks (if I can sell my beater now).

First mods should go on the first week I have her, including sliders, front bumper, 3" OME, UCA's, winch, and wheels.

White smoke is an indication of either water, or coolant typically.

    Cy1 - 170PSI - acceptable
    Cyl2 - 155PSI - unacceptable
    Cyl3 - 180PSI - acceptable
    Cyl4 - 152PSI - unacceptable

While these numbers are TECHNICALLY within the proper range, they should have less than a 5% variation from each other for the engine to have proper power and performance. (read as meaning "for the engine to be worth a sh!t") This equates to the following acceptable numbers, assuming 1 and 3 remain the same, and use the lower of the two as the baseline (170psi):

    cyl1 - 170
    cyl2 - 162.5
    cyl3 - 180
    cly4 - 162.5

Check for cylinder leakdown on #2 and #4. Make sure you do not have a bad valve(s) for that cylinder. Excessive heat could have caused valve issues. Re-run the compression test. Do a dry test, just like you did, then do a wet test by putting about 1 teaspoon of engine oil into the spark plug hole immediately before testing that cylinder. If the compression goes up considerably, you have burnt rings. If it does not change, then the loss of compression is either in the head gasket area, or the valving.

All of that being said, after hearing the noise in the video, I would suggest getting a replacement and then rebuild the original as time and money permits.

That's good input. I think you're dead-on on the last point... I ran it by the guys on miata turbo, some of whom build a good number of these engines, and the resounding response was spun rod bearing. If the engine has to come out and be torn apart anyway, I probably won't test it further.

I bet, but have no way of knowing for sure, that the cylinder compression has been low on #2 and #4 before the damage, so maybe a "new" engine with better numbers will get me a bit of a power boost! :D
