allpro long travel, shackle flip with ome dakars, cruisin offroad bumpers and sliders, 4.88 gears with arb's front and rear, budbuilt skids.
tuned deisels are an whole other ball game, shitty tuning leads to your picture, proper tuning and they burn clean and can make big power.

Thats the whole problem with these. If they would make them so tuner tards can't make them blow smoke then yes they would be a good idea. But you know if they put them in tacos people here will start with this crap. And maybe even start putting stacks in the beds.

I bet you none of those other threads have the word "boner" on it.

When a diesel is tuned properly it makes wonderful music and beautiful sooty smoke!! The screaming of the turbo whining up, the sound of the rear tires spinning from 1200 lb tq, the face of hippies with the horror of the so called environmental damage, the middle finger to the epa for that stupid urea crap that diesel don't need... Need I say more about tuned diesels, but in other news Mazda has a new diesel design that I would drop in the Tacoma in a heartbeat it only uses a standard catalytic converter to clean the exhaust

Here is my reason...fuel consumption, the reason i bought a wimpy 2.7L manual (actually bought it because it was a year old, $5900, and I can fix it for around a grand, but that is another story). I would love a lifted, 4x4, with huge engine, emitting testerone with every RPM....but can't justify the drop in fuel efficiency (also can't afford it...since this is the fourth auto in the stable, along with 6 cycles).

Got this from australian advertizing showing fuel economy of Hilux Diesel vs. Gas.

Double Cab SR Pick-Up diesel has a combined fuel consumption of 8.3L per 100km[G11] (manual)
Double Cab SR Pick-Up petrol has a combined fuel consumption of 13.1L per 100km[G11] (manual)

The conversion of 8L per 100 kilometers is equal to 30 miles a gallon, for a 4X4 while 13l per 100 kilometers is more like 20 (what we get here).

Not sure why this country is so against diesel overall...I would love a Jetta TDI (40 - 50 mpg) for commuting...

Also not sure why emissions are not tied to fuel efficiency. Seems like your emissions would have to be double that of another car if your fuel economy was also double to even out. And all long distance shipping in the US isn't done by Diesel for any other reason (father worked for CAT fixing engines).

    Just my two cents.

That's the best post here yet really. No train, ship, or large trucks use gasoline, its all about the low cost of operation and fuel economy.

Cummins are great, always have been. Nothing beats an old CAT 3406E though

I was talking about pickup trucks though, not semi trucks.

Many of the rednecks at my school drove big straight piped diesels and loved to roll coal in them.
