Nothing, I was just saying they did that. I know I would if I had one.

The only diesel in our family is my John Deere tractor with a 1.0L 3 cylinder Yanmar, I try to roll what little coal I can in that thing sometimes.;)

Some people try to build the world or enjoy it, others just want it to burn it. Reap what you sow I guess.
I remember when I could see 150 miles across this state and see from one mountain range to another. All combines emissions from vehicles eliminated that, and that's in an era with yet even more epa regulations.

... rolling coal... more like the banner of uninhibited environmental rape. Roll coal in your own house if its so fun and entertaining.

I tie it to redneck incest mating calls.

Its not what a proper diesel engine is or should do.

Me too... I find the Tacoma much more practical, but when I moved to Houston, it just didn't make anymore sense. I also couldn't seem to keep the front-end in that thing from going bad.

    Well lets see...
    1) Vastly better fuel mileage for about the same power.
    2) More torque, and torque is what a truck needs, not high RPM horsepower.

    the trade off is:
Diesels engines cost more money (but not if it actually goes mainstream!).
Routine maintenance is more money, but not too bad.

I think a modest size diesel in a Tacoma could change the whole outlook on diesel engines in vehicles. Look at how successful the VW/Audi TDI diesel has become in small cars, 40 to 50 mpg and plenty of power and they last forever!

    Boner earned I say

    Detoits are definitely cool.

My shop teacher in high school put a 3 cyl in his 199* F250, fun project, made for a real neat truck too. Just so loud!

    Odds and Ends
I'll admit, when I'd see a Prius at a stoplight with the window down I really liked to creep up and put their window about mid cab, not to close to the clackin motor up front and not in the path of the exhaust, this would ensure they kept their window down. Put the edge programmer on level 5 with low boost fueling maxed out and let it load up a bit. Light turns green......hammer down and roll coal like a train. Black out the intersection. That gives diesel owners a huge boner.

    Wow, lot of bizarre posts....

Diesel is cleaner now than before, of course.

But my point is if your truck gets 40 mpg, but only emits 50% more than a gas one that get 20 mpg, then you are being environmetally sound by driving a diesel...furthermore, Europe is way more enviro conscious than we are, and diesels are in abundance there for the fuel economy.

But the best argument I can find for diesels, is that if you could drive whatever Tacoma you now drive, with the same performance, and buy 50% less gas, who in their right mind would say no, I am going to stick with gas, because I like wasting money...what the F moron would do that.

See, even the most anti environmental ass in the world is at the pumps a conservationist...

Seems like some people in the world think it is cool to be dumb....

As the son of a CAT diesel mechanic, I like this post (about the CAT comment)..even though I don't know crap about different diesel engines, except that I want one in my Tacoma, and my civic, and my Cooper Convertible, and my wife's minivan....

    lol

I don't get a boner every time a 1 ton rolls by me and rips a black cloud cuz they think their truck is cooler than mine... I do get chub for the possibility of a cummins 4bt in my taco tho, that would be sweet.

Yea those "tuned" one ton cummins or duramax's or strokers sound pretty bonetastic but it's just that and nothing more really. They don't haul anything or go anywhere with em so I sort of just get tired of driving thru black clouds because they love to show their awesomeness to eachother!!!

We put a 4BT into a 85 Bronco in college as a side project. Beautiful engine for a swap, the hardest part is getting it lined up with the transmission and fabbing nice solid mounts. (Actually, this was easy with the Bronco. We more or less reused the stock straight-6 mounts.)

I think it'd be awesome in a Tacoma, but you'd need some stiff springs up front, damn things weigh nearly 800lbs wet.
