Baka's 1998 Build

Ayup. They look a lot stouter than my bent stock springs with AALs. They're freakin' heavy too. My sliders have shipped as well...supposed to be here on the 31st. I'm sure the poor guy is going to hate my guts by then.

To be honest though, I'm not looking forward to installing the lift. I'm completely expecting it to be a PITA that is going to fight me every step of the way...in the August heat as well.

 

The lift won't be bad at all .. Come see me and I will install it for nominal fee

 

You would think that. On the surface it's just an unbolt the old and bolt on the new operation. But keep in mind, this is a 15 y/o truck. I'm anticipating seized fasteners all over the place that have to be cut out, especially on the rear springs.

Gonna try that magical ATF/Acetone solution though, so hopefully that'll spare me some grief.

If the 'nominal fee' was a case of beer and you lived about an hour closer, I'd think about it.

That and I also plan on replacing my ball joints, CV axles, and completely dropping the front diff so I can take it apart to get the carrier out and have the spiders welded. It's going to be a sho'nuff adventure.

I appreciate the offer, but you'll be about 53 miles as the crow flies from me and I probably won't have the truck then anyway (body shop is probably gonna have it). Otherwise, we'd definitely make a party of it.

I still need to contact Goomba to see if he can give me any pointers on disassembling a clamshell diff. It looks fairly straight forward, but I don't want to find out the hard way that there's something that's gonna fall out before I see where it came from when I split the housing.

Well, the Taco has been dropped off at the body shop. Sayonara, little black Tacoma.

Any front/rear locker planned?

 

Is there not any legs on those sliders? .. You have to make your own legs and frame plates ?

 

Yeah, the legs, gussets, and mounting plates are in the box behind the sliders. I just opted not to unpack them so as to not lose any of the smaller pieces. They just come in pieces so you can custom assemble them to suit your own needs.

And yeah, I intend to Lincoln lock the front end. Locking the rear isn't in the budget for the time being...unless someone is giving away a Lockrite, or a Detroit for a 1st Gen Taco rear end.

 

I'm accumulating quite a collection of parts on my bedroom floor. I now have a 3" OME complete lift with Dakars, a full set of upper and lower ball joints for both sides, a pair of new CV axles (lifetime warranty for when I pop one), and a set of 4xI sliders. Oh, and a shiny new ball joint press, which I've learned is awesome for U-joints as well.

The sliders should be getting installed this weekend. After that, the truck may go back to the body shop to have some defects rectified. I should be able to start working on the suspension next week some time.

Nice build, you went the right way with your suspension. Also good choice getting armor first. It cheaper to protect your truck than it is to fix it. Maybe some time if you need help i can come visit. Good luck!

Thanks. The OME lift did pretty much gut my budget, but when I learned that my rear springs were toast, I decided to go all in since I had to get the Dakars anyway.

I appreciate it. You're decently close so I'll definitely give you a call if I need a hand.

 

K, got my sliders on. Not sure I'm happy with them. They stick out too far and make the truck look like a bumper car or something. Still, I'm reserving judgement until I get the lift and new wheels and tires on.

Hey! Progress! How about that! Now I just have to get the lift installed, the new ball joints and axles in, and the front diff Lincoln Locked and she'll almost be done.

 

The lift and tires , and eventually bumpers, will fill it out nicely , I thought the same about my sliders, until I gotwider Tires and rear bumper
