We have a 2008 Tacoma TRD sport king cab, long box. We have had a right rear leaf spring break 2x in the last 4 mos. We are wondering if this could be due to the shocks being worn. We have 135,000 km/\90,000. miles on vehicle. We do tow a horse trailer, 2 horse aluminium, only about 4-5 times a year. We have anti sway bars and an excellent hitch. The leaf broke both times while not towing. Our roads can be rough but try to avoid pot holes at all costs but not always possible. We drive highway most of the time and lesser paved highways. We have talked to two garages, one a truck repair who did both leaf springs, and our toyota dealer says our shocks should be fine. We notice the odd right rear mild thump if going over uneven roads, and the rear end feels a little jittery |(unstable) while cornering or while hitting small bumps. It was not like this before. The parts person at Toyota says we should put more weight in the back, we have 2 sand bags, one each side at present. Should we put more weight. We have looked after this truck and never off road it. \if it is a shock issue, what brand do you recommend and what is the procedure for replacing. Does the truck need to be jacked up et.c We were also told that Tacoma's are notorious for having leaf spring issues. Thank you for any help you can give us.l

I know this is an older thread but just discovered one spring on one side is broken in three places and making a wicked racket. I have the standard 3 in 1 pack that came with the truck. I am considering your advice but just making sure it would be the recommendation for my truck as well, 07' Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 TRD. The folks at Wheelers Off Road are great to work with so probably will buy them there as you recommend.

Hey guys, i have an 08 Tacoma with a 2.5" lift (1.5" Blocks in the back and 2.5" spacers in the front). Was wondering if you had any recommendations as to what kind of rear shocks i should put in, my stock ones are wearing out so its time to make a change.

Get rid of that garbage leveling kit. I had the same thing. Go with old man emu suspension or add some bilstein 5100's. Leveling kits blow hard. Do it right or don't bother

I have a 2.5" Bilstein 5100 leveling kit with 5100s in the rear as well. I have the Taco Bro Lean from the front lift though and a heavy rear bumper. Would Dakars Leaf Kit make it sit too far forward?

http://www.oldmanemu.com.au/old-man-emu-suspension-selector/ not an expert on the dakars but this is there page for your set up. Calling them with your specs will allow you to get the correct info you need and you can always adjust your 5100's. For the money and quality OME looks like what you want

So a little late to the game here but just traded in my 02 for a 12 and have some questions regarding the upgrade of these sloppy springs. I'm looking at upgrading the rears to improve my ride and handling but am not necessarily wanting to lift it at this time. The link provided here states that the "truck will sit higher than stock", but how much higher? I do want to lift eventually but for now would probably remove the 3rd leaf in order to keep things somewhat near the stock height. At most I'd want to go with a 3" all around (loosely speaking) so I'm curious if these would allow for that or if I'd need to purchase a second set down the road to accommodate (or AAL?). I had an OME kit on my 02 and replaced the entire rear with OME-CS046R (Dakar set) but was very unhappy with the lack of support they provided to a fully loaded bed (i.e., sag). The Wheeler kit sounds like it's up to the task, but again, I just don't want to have to replace them again when I do decide to lift. Any recommendations on the best way to address this issue?
