okay, so i just bought a gopro 3, and of course i didnt even think that my POS laptop (a little mini netbook with windows xp) wouldnt be up for the job. this thing barely loads at all lol.

so i need something that will be good for everyday use, i dont need it to be powerful for games or anything, or running alot of shit at once, the most 'biggest' thing ill be doing is editing gopro vids once i figure out how lol. i am trying to keep it under $350 shipped. im looking on tigerdirect but i dont really know what to look for. i dont know what good specs are. i dont want to say 'whats the minimum i need to get by to do vids' because i dont want it to struggle, but i dont need a top of the line (of course not for under 350) but you know what i mean.

so, heres a link to tigerdirect

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Category/guidedSearch.asp?CatId=17&sel=Price;Price5

    can you guys help me??

I know I said the same thing during my first three laptops, now my macbook has outlasted all 3 of them combined. Definitely worth considering. Other than that I can't help you out with a PC. Wish I could

That is not a bad computer. Not great, but it is OK.

Look for something with more memory. At least 8GB. Also, with that 500GB hard drive, you might find it filling up quickly with videos.

i have an external hard drive so the hard drive size isnt a concern, i just want to make sure the graphics can play the video and its fast enough i wont have any lag when editing etc

The shared graphics may lag a bit on video playback. A dedicated graphics card would be better.

You are not going to get much for $350.

Playback lag shouldn't be a concern with the laptop you posted, even if you're outputting to a 1080 tv(which I'm not sure you can even do with that laptop, I can't tell if it has an HDMI output on it).

More memory is obviously desirable, but if editing is your main concern, 4GB will be sufficient. For editing, the biggest factor is going to be in processor speed, as that will be the biggest determining factor in render time. Right now I'm doing most of my editing on a Core i5 laptop with 4GB of ram, and it works well enough. HDD speed is a factor too, but at your price point it's not a concern.

Almost any desktop in the same price range is going to do a much better job than any laptop, but then you need to factor in the cost of a monitor too, if you don't already have one. Personally, I like editing on my laptop for convenience and portability, but that's strictly preference.

Like jdmcq said though, for $350 you're going to be pretty limited on what you can get. The laptop you posted is actually pretty dang good for $315.

Im essentially in the same situation. My laptop isn't bad. Even for 7 years old, I can still do a good amount of things at once. But the editing software for the movies is way to much of a program for my laptop. (plus most laptops don't have the graphics meant for video editing) SO im building my own desktop. Nothing fancy, and with a little research, you can learn to piece together a good build. the one im looking at is coming to about $580. and that will last me a ton longer and be way faster than my already pretty fast laptop.

actually this one doesn't look too bad o me for what you want. 1.5TB hard drive is probably way more than you'll need, so if you find one with less you could probably still save some $$. 500Gb is about right for storage these days.

That's not a very good machine, I would never pay $300 for that, I would buy a laptop over that any day. That thing is WAY outdated.

If I were you, I would buy this, you won't find anything that can touch it for the price:
