I was at the dealership today, I noticed some new Tacoma's said they were made in Otay Mesa, California.I thought they were either made in Texas or Mexico?

I toured the Tacoma/Tundra factory here in San Antonio last year and I asked that question. I was told "All Tacomas are made in San Antonio....the beds are still made in mexico and shipped to SA. The engines come completely assembled in a crate from Japan" But several members on here swear up and down the door sill sticker indicates their 2012+ Tacomas were made in Mexico (Baja California).

So, I have no idea what the truth is.

Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
The folks in San Antonio are wrong.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Motor_Manufacturing_de_Baja_California

The Baja Mexico Toyota factory does indeed make Tacoma pickups. A simple VIN check verifies this if someone doesn't want to believe the window sticker or Wiki. As for motors, I'll have to check, but I'm pretty sure the 4.0L in my '12 was assembled in the U.S.

Otay Mesa is a Land Port of Entry (LPOE), often used for commercial truck traffic (not exclusively, though). You could have been misreading the information, as a Tacoma assembled in Baja could come through Otay Mesa as its official 'import point'. San Ysidro is another LPOE, and I forget the other.

The Toyota Tacoma plant in Baja, California (Mexico) is in Tecate (yes, the same city where the beer is made). The Tacomas are then loaded onto trucks and shipped to the US through the Otay Mesa (San Diego) Port of Entry.

Next time you are in Tecate, stop by the Tecate brewery for a tour and some beer tasting, then go visit the Toyota plant. :D

San Antonio builds 70% of the Tacomas. The 30% that Baja produces are Double Cabs only. Texas (TMMTX) builds 100% of all Regular and Access Cabs. All beds are made in Baja, then shipped to Texas for final assembly. How do I know this? I work at TMMTX. :D

My Taco was built in San Antonio, Texas, the pic I took of the window sticker was from a Tacoma on the dealer lot I was having my truck serviced at.Not that there's anything wrong with trucks built in Mexico, but I'm glad and proud to say mine was built in truck country U.S.A., Texas! Btw, Go COWBOYS!!!!

Not to pee on your parade, but I'm not buying that it was assembled by hand any more than the other Tacoma's.
