If this info came off the Australian oem websites, are the MPG posted using the imperial gallon?

Yep, big wood for diesels, no compunction. If you have never driven one extensivly, then you have no idea what you are missing. Still waiting for that first small/midsize diesel P/U. No thanks, Ram. The 1500 is too big. My Jetta TDi, Passat TDi and and Golf TDi need a big brother- the Amarok is tops on my list.

I wonder how many people realize there is even a diesel motorcycle.
NATO doesn't use gas anymore due to its flamability. Diesel is safer for them, the safety issue isn't as needed for us....I guess..... hmmm.

Safety, and the need to stock the smallest number of different fuels possible, in long-term storage, pretty much rules out gasoline. Outboard boat motors are a significant and troublesome exception.

A few years ago, somebody was selling the v-twin diesel engine used on the military Kawasakis. They may still be available.

No. All Aussie webpages actually listed the mileage in L/100km's like we do in Canada.

All the MPG's listed were converted to the American MPG.

the funny thing is this.. while the big three motors and the big wigs let the VW and few other imported names such as BMW.. bring in diesel engines in the cars that sold in US. They know damn well that the big three are afraid of the Toyota will knock them down with taco with a diesel..Oh by the way.. I learned that the VW passbt have a known problem with the tranny after xx miles need to be replace.

And the nice thing about a TDI. Engine mods.

A stock TDI Jetta is around 140/220 torque.

A flashed ECU, downpipe and new filter and they are at 170hp and 280 torque. I could just imagine what the Amarok could achieve.

has anybody ever seen the torque curve of the 1gr? let me re-phrase, the "torque line"?

common guys what factory diesel can maintain torque through such a wide rpm band? y'all need to have some faith in your motor, and 4cyl guys, well. . . . . :stirthepot:

Factory diesel wouldn't need to maintain the same line. Drive one, you'll find the "flat line" of the 4L wont compare to whatever curve or flat ,320 ft lb does... especially 500-2500 rpm. A lot of the charts only show 3000 rpm n up or so on the 4L, Looks better on paper. Do an equal chart 500 rpm to 5000. Even then, charts wont tell the story like a test drive or a 5000lb trailer load.

With a 1kd you've got 353 ft lbs from 1000 RPM to 3400, it has a very flat torque err line.

I's just startin some shit. though I havnt driven many diesels, and zero in the "small displacement" category, it is by design a far superior power-plant. the fact that they don't have a throttle plate alone is what sells me on them. gas operates under constant vacuum load, unless wide open. that's dumb.

im wondering though if with direct injection we could eliminate the throttle plate in gas motors. but it would still be dumb as diesel has more energy output per unit. but then again, peanuts put out considerable energy when burnt, and haven't been great for fuel. (seriously, burn one)

I guess with diesels, the problem is weight, and the ability to get maximum energy output from the fuel without making a bunch of smoke.

I don't think its a conspiracy, and believe me, im a conspiracy lunatic! diesel is just not quite ready for the American public
