New carpet and new racing seats. ( other half doesnt like them i think). Nwor springs and adjustable coil overs. Sky jacker rear shocks. Slot and drilled rotors. Engine Titanium ceramic coated headers, no cat, jba cat back. URD Rear Sensor Simulator. Leds all around and inside cab and HID H4 hi/lo beams.
All i hear is the normal toyota ticking.( hard to tell even with my headphones plugged in and turned all the way up) if there is any extra noise...

My 5vz with 251XXX does the same thing mine is alittle louder do to some head work and jba headers which makes it louder at idle...

I heard about the normal tick, I thought this was excessively loud though to just be a characteristic of the engine.

Hey thanks for taking the time to make the video man! I think mine is quite a bit louder though. I don't know if these V6s need the valves adjusted like the 4 bangers do.

I am just worried about all that noise she makes.

Might try sea foam. At least that would rule out a cracked manifolds. If there is a crack smoke would seep through.

The 3.4 and the 2.7 (as well as the 2.4) don't have traditional "valve adjusting". They use shims to set valve clearance. If clearance gets excessive you have to replace the shims themselves.

Thats what I meant, could they cause noise on an engine with 90k?

Also does anyone else think the sound on my truck is excessive?

I'll just be proactive here and post the link to a valve shim writeup. http://www.yotatech.com/f128/5vz-fe-3rz-fe-2rz-fe-valve-adjustment-tech-226997/

And after watching both, yours does seem a bit louder. I'd bet you money it's something silly. Mine was making a funny noise until I realized a nut on the downstream O2 sensor rusted off and the sensor wasn't sealed down tight. Silly things will do it.

mine has never made ticking noise like that I have a small exhaust leak that you can hear at about 2000 rpm driving but never had a tick like that.

Damn, I hope its nothing. This engine is still a baby :(

Is it worth taking to the dealership?

I'd say no. Try seafoam and look for exhaust leaks.

Shouldn't be an exhaust leak, it only happens after it is warmed up and is most noticeable at 700 rpm and under. You can't hear it once the revs get over a certain point like 900 rpm.

While you may still be right about it not being an exhaust leak, it can't be ruled out simply because it only occurs after it warms up. An exhaust leak can become more evident after the engine and exhaust warm up due to thermal expansion. You have an aluminum head, and a steel manifold. Both metals expand differently when hot.

Again though, you may be very right that it is something else, I just didn't want you to rule out exhaust leak based on what you said. The best way to find a mechanical noise, if that is the case, is to use a cheap listening device and place it on the valve cover(s) where the noise seems the loudest.

Gonna bump a very old thread here because my truck makes the exact same noise. @taco terror did you ever figure out what this was?

lol. I'm like 80% sure the motor just needed a proper oil change.
Sounds like noisy valves due to thin/low oil.

I don't think it's an oil related issue. Mines always been run with Mobil1 full synthetic, changed every 3,000 miles, and never been run low on oil and it still makes this noise.

I'm pretty sure it's the valve train either way. I'm not buying the cracked flex plate.
If it's the valvetrain, then oil is low (the giveaway with OP was 'only when warmed up') or the valves or damaged or out of adjustment. Damage is always possible one way or another. As is somehow prematurely wearing down on the shims so that something falls out of adjustment, but I don't know. I figure on a 90k mile 5vz, I would lean more towards something not pressurizing properly - oil.

The proper oil and filter are important.

had my truck sense 65k miles and its always done that faint tick, do oil change every 3k miles. Even run sell 91 with the cleaning shit in it like every 4th fill up. Still no clue why it does that

I do oil changes every 3-3.5k miles within the dots on the dipstick (aka my engine never has low oil). The valve shims have never been adjusted and now at 130k I don’t really notice/pay attention to the noise. Could just be a characteristic of the engine, or I may need to get them adjusted.
