Horribly inefficient for a 10. I can't wait till the SI BM comes out. That will be the shallow mount sub to beat. The JL one is nice but very expensive.

ive found that if u dont care too much about clarity rockford pounds hard for the power needed, i had a couple standard p3's in a ported box in my integra, they hit un godly hard

I'm not trying to be a dick but I think this is a good opportunity to explain something.

The efficiency of a subwoofer is how loud it gets off a a single watt of power. The sub in question from the first post will play 83db loud off a single watt. Now, the decibel system is based on a logarithmic function which basically means that for every 10db increase the sound is perceived to be TWICE as loud.

So starting off with a single watt of power we are at 83db. Everytime you double the power you get an extra 3db. So we raise it to 2watts and get 86db, 4watts to 89db....etc. So how much power does it take to get to 110db? It would take roughly 512watts of power to get that sound level with a sub that's 83db efficient. But what about if we used a different sub like the Focal 30 A1? This sub is 94db efficient with 1 watt! So the rockford would need almost 16 times the power to produce the same level of sound as the Focal sub. The Focal sub will reach 109db on just 32 watts!!!

What this doesn't mean: It doesn't mean one sub can get louder than another. It DOES mean that a more efficient sub will play louder off a given amount of power. You wouldn't have to buy a very powerful amp to run the Focal sub I mentioned. You could go with a low power amp and possibly save yourself some money and put less of a strain on your electrical system. :D

What price range are you trying to keep it under? Also, knowing that depth is probably an issue as well, what is your maximum depth?

If you have room for a 12 I would suggest the Stereo Integrity Mag as a good option. Great sub that works in TINY enclosures and is very potent. You'd not want for anything else I assure you of that.

there website recommende atleast .8 cubic feet of air space.... im only going to have around .5. im lookin for a sub under $200, that will work in a box of .5 cubic feet or airspace, and have a mounting depth of less than 5"........ what you think?

The Mag prefers a small airspace. .8 is optimal but .5 would work. I think the owner of Stereo Integrity, Nick, has a pair of them in .7 each.

Under 5 inches is a tough squeeze for most subs. That rules out most 12's. The Mag is $249 though so unless your price range changes that's a no go.

Under 5 inches in .5 less than $200 and still sounds good. I'm going to have to think for a bit.

Im not looking to win competitions.... im just looking to add a little bass withouth going overboard... i had two mtx 12s in my old s-10, and them things were nasty.... no competition winner, but was a very nice system.. i went all out with that truck. prolly had about $2500 in it.... new HU, new dash and door speakers, dynamat all over, and two subs.....

well now that im a little older and wiser, and as my need to make everyone in the parking lot look at me decreases, i dont want that much anymore.... when i first bought my tacoma almost two years ago, i thought i would try the factory radio out for a little while and see if i could deal with it.... but i cant deal with it any more, i just have to get some bass in that thing.... my plan is to stick with the factory HU and all factory speakers..... but just add a little bass with one 10" sub!
