Well folks. Just got back from Toyota after having a frame inspection. Started off with the "that program expired" from the rookie service guy. Said NO it didn't. Have already spoken with Toyota in California. Said my Tacoma was still qualified for the buyback and that I had an appointment scheduled. Said to the young man... is there someone else more experienced with this issue that I may speak with? He said yes, the assistant manager can help you.

Long story short. They found a small hole in the frame near the rear leaf. Not even sure if they hammer tested it or not. Woman said this was one of if not the nicest Tacoma for the year she had seen and feels bad. I knew I should not have put that OEM exhaust on!

So, the ole girl with about 86K easy miles and no body rust will be going to the crusher. Not official yet. But, soon I would imagine. :( Gave me a rental (2-wheel Tacoma) for now.

Such a shame... On a positive note, this should give you a decent down payment on a 2nd generation no?

A moment of silence for another doomed taco...

You know how much you're getting for it? I honestly can't wait for mine to fail but being an '04 I just get a basically new version of my same truck

What prompted you to look at the Frame and notice the corrosion?

Yes it would make a nice down payment but not having a payment and a good running truck was nice. Toyota will make it "right" but I will miss her. Do already.

I don't know yet what the buyout will be. My guess is between 12.5 and 15K if the numbers I see on KBB are accurate. Paid $12,000 for her back in '08. Installed a towing hitch. Put tires on her which are like new. Just spent $700+ for new Yota exhaust from the convertor back. Looking to break even or close to it. Could be worse.

The truck sat in the driveway most of the time. Did tow a trailer now and then. Go to Lowes, etc. Extra vehicle basically. Put a new OEM exhaust on last winter and got to looking around and thinking. Frame didn't look "bad" or anything like some of the horror photos I had seen but figured I'd have it checked before the buyback expired come December. Thought it would pass but knew most don't.

Yes she did. Only put about 500 miles oh her since Jan 01. Lived a good life and was spoiled! Thank you.

Thanks for ruining my day with those pictures...you can't let all of those nice parts go to waste. PART SOME OF IT OUT! :) I have been told that the only requirement is it needs to be able to pull on to the trailer under its own power.

If you can get some parts off, I'm looking for a rear bumper.
I drive a 99 too but never worried about having the frame expected.

Do they even bother to salvage parts from it? Because I could use some of that interior stuff. :(

Thanks for the comments guys. For those asking about parts, we all know this will become the property of Toyota Motor Corp to do with as they please which from what I have read is to crush it. :( Perhaps this is not true?

The truck is currently at a local Toyota dealership and I got a phone call yesterday with a price offer. Unless I heard wrong, the price is quite nice helping me feel a little better about the loss. When I get it in writing, I will share for reference.

Yes, the interior was very clean. No rips. No tears. No stains.

If that was my truck it would be a skeleton and the only seat in it would be a five gallon bucket before I signed any papers...seriously.
