I still haz your # I will keep you posted. I have been trying to hit the high country for years now but was always the wrong time of the year on the way to Moab.

 

that time of year, the mountains will start to get snow, so just plan accordingly if you're camping up there. let me know if you need a hand planning shit out.

 

Yea I have all my winter gear, I use to live in Tahoe so lots of back country winter experience but I'm sure I will need to check my list multiple times.

 

Let me know how that wireless control works out. Do you leave it connected all the time? How big is the unit that attaches to the control box?

I've been wanting to get one but with a limited search I couldn't find the answers.

 

That control box is smaller than I thought it would be. Pretty cool!

 

yea, i was glad to see how small it was...i was concerned about how much space it would take up. but it'll go in and stay in. i should have enough room where i have my box now for the control box to stay there. looks like there's some wiring needed in the solenoid box for the wire you see there. it's a ground wire that needs to go into the plug on the box.

ordered it last thursday and got it today with their free shipping.

 

So can you run an aftermarket intake and the snorkel for maximum performance/efficiency? Or do you have to use the stock intake?

 

not sure if the benefits would out weigh the hassle and added costs

if you want a washable filter, just get a drop in AFE or K&N with the snorkel.

 

Got it. Makes sense. And from what you were telling me earlier, when you put the circular filter up top it helps protect the filter even more, and barely hurts your mpg right? Because I have seen both top pieces for that snorkel.

 

the pre-filter helps tremendously with the filtration in dusty conditions and helps keep moisture from snow melt out of the intake during heavy snow conditions.

there will be a slightly mpg decline as you are restricting the airflow versus the normal hoods that have low restrictions and allow the air to get jammed down your engine's throat.

so i use my normal hood for 98% of the time and will break out the pre-filter during heavy snow storms or if i'll be wheeling in a dusty location for an extended amount of time. we like to occasionally chase after some storms and i'll throw the pre-filter on for those conditions as well due to the extreme volumes of rain coming down.

 

Is it very hard to swap between the two hoods? Like could you be running the high airflow hood and it starts raining or snowing heavily or you reach a dusty trail and just stop and throw the circular hood on pretty easily and get going again.

 

the pre-filter has two clamps holding it on.



top one i never remove, it holds the coupler on the pre-filter. i loosen the bottom clamp and pull the coupler and pre-filter off as one unit.

i reuse the bottom clamp to hold the normal hood on as well.

for both the pre-filter and the normal hood, i also have a set screw to keep the tops from rotating and added security.

so to swap out it's:

1. remove set screw
2. loosen lower clamp
3. remove hood
4. place new hood on
5. tighten clamp
6. put in set screw

so it's a quick and easy swap. key is to make sure when you're swapping out for the pre-filter in a downpoar or snow storm to hover the pre-filter over the hood like an umbrella and drop it straight down to prevent snow/rain from going in the tube.

 

You like the Short tube headers more than the long tubes?? Forget why you made the switch.

 

for what i need them for, yes i like them.

drone is less and the gains on the low end are more than the long tubes. i spend most of my time below 3000 rpm which is where you see the most gains in long-tube. versus shorties have gains throughout.

longs were fun and probably wasted a bunch of mpg driving through tunnels

but sound is bad ass with the longs and if you end up in the high end power band, you'll like the gains.

or if you ever plan on supercharging, then longs would be a good route.

 

Yeah I was just curious for your input... Eventually want some headers but havent decided which kind yet.
