The studies have been done. The scientific community has been dwelling on this subject for 40 or 50 years now.
We like to lay blame for inaction on the shoulders of our "government", because that's the easiest way for us to individually absolve ourselves of responsibility. We all seem to forget that our "democracies" are supposed to work from the bottom up, not the top down.
A couple of the major factors why government has not acted upon this issue to any substantial means are:
    (1) We (the general population) have not demanded it of them.
    (2) We (the general population and the elected officials) are unable to accept the consequences that appropriate action would bring.

Truth is, that our lifestyles and our economies run off of the problem, and none of us are willing to sacrifice those for the future of our species.

...1970s it was "global cooling", ...1990s/2000s it was "global warming", ...and now it's "climate change"... same pig, different lipstick...

the "hockey stick" graph has not come to fruition, ...a complete farce... however, we can expect variability in the "climate" since historical research has shown dramatic changes at past epochs in the planet's history, ..and we also now are beginning to understand more the impacts of the sun and of space weather on the planet..

...hmm, this seems a little like deja vu :D

...it's reasonable to believe that the "climate" undergoes changes, as ancient history shows the signs... furthermore, it is reasonable to believe there are "changes" because we are beginning to understand that the volatility in our sun has a large impact on this planet...

...where we seem to reach an impasse on is "who/what" causes it, and "whether" any such perceived "changes" are as dramatic as they are made out to be by the alarmists... unfortunately there is a lot of junk science that incestuously seeks its funding by making predictions that support the objectives of the investors (i.e. job security)... i.e. "climate science", which has cried wolf far too many times, and has been suspected (and caught) in perpetuating nefarious schemes rooted in political ideology and globalism.

i know you were talking to Wiley, but heres my .02, yes there is climate change, it's a natural occurrence, it's how the earth was designed to work.

I would suggest the Inuit peoples of the Arctic notice the perceived " changes " in their historic pack ice hunting grounds

Let me ask you this then , let's agree there is climate change happening , including a warming trend that is shifting rainfall patterns , melting Arctic pack ice that is raising sea levels , and melting glaciers that people depend on for drinking water

Do you not think that given these changes there should be some strategy on how to deal with the effects going forward ?

...the lynchpin in the article's argument is that they infer that, the global warming fad must be legit, because it, somehow unlike the global cooling fad, has a "consensus"...

i'm not seeing much of a "consensus" on man-made global warming, climate change, whateveryouwanttocallit... especially among us village folk who have persisted by way of time-tested BS-detectors... ;)

...where did the ice go?... did it sublimate, and then get redeposited on the south pole?... i.e. at the same time, some are speculating that there has been an expansion of ice in the antarctic...

...it may be true ice is receding or moving around up there, ...but i don't buy into the notion that it's a cataclysmic event going on...

So things like glacial retreat , sea level rise and Arctic sea ice melt are BS ?

Where does ice go in your glass when it melts ?

Is this a real question ?

OK , so the Earth's natural cycle is going to change our agricultural production , raise sea levels and change availability to fresh water

We are just going to play it by ear ?

...i thought i made my case already... the "BS" i'm talking about is the political impetus behind the man-made global warming / climate change... it is understandable if certain localities undergo changing conditions/weather/etc, ....similar kind of thing occurs in many areas of the world; long term drought, famine, floods, etc... nothing new here, some things are cyclic...

    well, let's start w/ the physical transport mechanisms;
sublimation, evaporation, melting, condensation.... probably left something out here, ...but i'm pretty sure it doesn't end up in outer space :D

...in the near-term, most of it probably stays in the glass, unless you take a drink... ;)

The natural cycle is going to recorrect itself, it's happened before it will happen again, that's climate change works.

    Yes.

It is. I didn't forget the leftist global cooling insanity of the '70's. Same insanity today.

There's just no convincing fanatical religious government worshippers who believe that only a bloated bureaucracy full of public union parasites can "save" them from imaginary calamity by taxing regulating and litigating.
