Hey all, I know what you are thinking before I even ask this question (why didn't you just get a V6) I know, right? well, too late, I'm stuck in the payment world. Anyways, what can I do to improve power on a 2013 Access Cab 4 bangin' 2.7? I almost purchased a GForce Performance chip but read the posts here which said Not to do it. So, I realize I can add a K&N Filter but what about a computer chip and what brand/type do I need? I know nothing about engines but want to get a little more pep out of it. Thanks for your help and descent answers.:eek:

I love Toyotas, but don't buy them for power and economy (very little). I buy them for reliability, quality, good looks, and are easy to work on.

Get used to it. Aftermarket junk mostly just lightens your wallet, and through the power of suggestion, makes you THINK you have more power. If you have an automatic, use the power setting of the ECT button :D . If you really want to spend money on it for better acceleration, re-gear the differential (at the cost of top-end).

Thanks Rick. I believe I should leave everything under the hood as stock. I dont want to mess with power if it isn't going to change anything but the "thought" of it. Are you also suggesting no CAT? If I cant increase power, i can at least mod the exterior and look good. :p i just lifted it 3" with 265 17s. It has character now!

My 2007 has a lot more power than I would have expected out of a 4 cyl. and a 5 speed, but would not want to try it with these 275-70-17's and an automatic. I make sure to keep good quality plugs in it, removed the secondary filter in the air-box, and have a an AFE Pro Dry filter in it. Running 93 octane fuel also helps , as we run a heavily loaded truck around town most of the time. The mileage is about 19 mpg around town, we run a tank through every other day and for years the truck goes 320 miles for just under 17 gallons, never changes.

No, I was NOT suggesting removing the CAT.

If you just put on tires that are larger in overall DIAMETER than original, then you made your power issue worse. They will also throw off your ECM and speedometer.

Adding more weight also will make it worse (aftermarket 'bad-ass' bumpers, skid plates, winch, etc).

I've heard that some headers will improve HP, but have no first-hand experience.

Don't mean to rain on your parade, but just letting you know that some mods have good and bad points. One just has to decide what issue is more important (bling vs style vs off-road ability vs economy vs reliability vs impressing your buddies, etc)
