OK, after researching this topic all freaking night, I believe I've come to the conclusion about what I want to do with my truck...however, I would like to ask the professionals (that means you guys) for your opinion.

I want to lift my 09 Taco Double Cab TRD (only 1.5"-2"). I know that a spacer kit is NOT ideal for people who do a lot of hard-core offroading as it can cause damage due to a smaller range of motion in the spring. I do alot of hunting in wintertime and tend to take my truck through some pretty mean looking holes so I believe the 5100's are the best choice for me, around half load . (please insert input here).

Now that this decision is made, what would be the best solution for the rear? Would I put 5100's in the rear also and an AAL? or 5100's and a spacer? or would just the AAL or the spacer suffice?

As I don't like the idea of spacer kits due to the little bit of off-roading I do, or the idea of selling my left testicle to lift my truck up 2 inches, can anyone tell me if this will accomplish my goal while keeping a smooth ride on the highway?

    Thanks!

Awesome, thanks John! I haven't done much research on the AAL's yet, but I just go about finding one that gives a 1.5" lift?

5100's set at 1.75, 1.5 in. AAL, 265/75/16 Cooper ST tires.
5100's set at 1.75 and 1.5 AAL in the back I have some rake maybe an inch or so. I use my truck for the same purpose you described op and it works fine

I've been thinking about this same setup also. Can you set the 5100's to 2"? I really don't want a rake.

    No. You have four settings on 5100s. 0.00" 0.85" 1.75" & 2.5"

There's also the option to do a 1" block in the rear.

Awesome stuff boys, thanks for all the info. 1.5" AAL's it is :))). This makes it so much easier to shop instead of wandering aimlessly around eBay.

Rake means the stance of the vehicle with the rear end sitting higher than the front. Most trucks have a rake from the factory so when you have a load in the bed or are towing, the ass end doesn't squat down lower than the front.

I'm currently running a setup similar to what you are looking at doing. You will need extended 5100's off a tundra and a bumpstop sized accordingly to avoid bottoming out on the shock and causing damage. I will direct you towards my thread which has part numbers for bumpstops and methods or parts you may want along the install or the ordering process once I am done installing mine. If you are feeling a little impatient click on my name > find more posts > "super bumps sizing?" And also "lifting? Fox 2.0 won't allow more? Come on in!"

Are you directing that toward me or 'ckivitt' ?
I have a 1st Gen Tacoma so would I still need those bumpstop's that you're talking about in your thread?

With 5100's all around set at 1.75" at the front and a 1.5 AAL in the back would anyone recommend getting the front diff drop down spacer as well? I know it's only recommended for lifts above 2" but with this setup will it cause more harm than good?

the diff drop is a waste of money for < 2.5" lifts and yes you are right about the harmful aspect. one of our members( i cant recall who) had it on their front diff, slammed down on the front end on a rock or something while off roading and cracked the transfer case housing where the new diff drop bolts are. ill see if i can find the thread.
