Hey everyone. Just signed up here. I've been browsing the forum a bit the last couple days doing a little research. Currently have a 2007 Impala SS coming off lease soon. Looking to buy a truck in the next couple months. I've narrowed my small list down to the Tacoma and the Frontier, although I'm really leaning towards the Tacoma. Looking to get an access cab with the TRD Off-Road package most likely, although a TRD Sport model isn't completely out of the question since I don't necessarily need all the off road goodies.

Is there anything in particular I should be aware of or look for? I'll be buying new. I've heard a lot of negatives about the upgraded JBL system with subwoofer. Is it really that bad? Also seems people are able to get better deals on the Taco than they do the Frontier. I've only seen one Pro4x( which is what I'd go with if I'd get a Frontier)on the lot of my Nissan dealer in the last few months and it seems like they rarely get them in whereas the Toyota always usually has at least a couple of both the TRD models. Thanks in advance for any input and I look forward to hopefully being a Taco owner in the next few months.

Welcome. About the JBL system, it isn't bad, but it is still behind what i would expect from a premium sound system. I think you would enjoy the tacoma much better than the frontier. I did TONS of research before I bought mine last june. I looked at fronteirs rangers and tacomas. I picked the tacoma because (from my research), rangers are fords :p frontiers have a tendancy to have bad engine wear problems by 50k miles due to plastic parts, and the tacoma bother performs best off and on road and (lets be honest) looks the best.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Another question...on the access cab do the rear jump seats fold up so that there is a flat load surface?

Yess sir, they fold down creating a flat surface with the storage compartments. I fit 5 wheels with 1 mounted tire back there haha

He's sold me. Now what kind of deal can you give me.

I've never owned a Toyota and I think I'd be a better salesman then some of the guys at our Toyota dealer. I was looking at a 4Runner there before I got my SS and the guy that was talking to me was clueless I was telling HIM about most of the features of the vehicle lol.

I was hoping to snag a deal on an 09 when the 2010 models start rolling in, however I haven't seen many magnetic grey models(the magnetic grey TRD sport they have at my dealer now is the first I've seen there in a looooong time, a little tempting) around here and I refuse to get any other color I love that color, so I may just end up having to order.

Haha thanks! There are MUCH more knowledgable people than I here but I try to save my advice for situation I know I can help the most. In fact most of the knowledge I have now were from my infinite questions to chris haha

Ya the stealership staff around here are pretty clueless. I do know they changed the access cab rear seats from 08 to 09, but since I own an 07, I am not sure what the changes were. I can take some pics of the rear of mine tomorrow if you want

Welcome, I wish I'd have found this site before I bought mine so I wouldn't have spent all the time & traveling around test driving. The difference in the Frontier that steered me away from it was they all seemed to be really loud (road noise) in the cab. Every Tacoma was so much quieter and smoother ride. But, I have to admit, just as dgerm said--The Tacoma simply is a BETTER LOOKING pickup. Go for it man.:D

better looking and hell its a toyota it will run for ever and in some cases even if you dont take care of it. i've seen these things abused and still get close to 300,000. a buddy of mine ,who took care of his, hit 320,000 or so and replaced the engine. stills runs great!

edit: i say replaced but i meant rebuilt.srry

It's cool no hurry. I'll be on vacation til mid next week anyways. I was hoping to make a deal on the one Taco when I return that they've had at my dealership for a little while, but it looks like it was sold now.:(

Here is my '07 Access Cab. The far side has the seat folded down and the near side has the seat in its normal position (keep in mind I am 6'4" and tend to keep the front seats pretty far back)

Excellent just what I was looking for, thanks. Yea, I'm 6'3 so I typically need my seat pretty far back in all the vehicles I've had. It's weird, the 07 Impala SS I have now, which is 4 door has less room for the rear seat passenger behind the driver with my seat all the way back than my 2 door Grand Am GT did. Thanks again for the pic.

Since it looks like the one I had my eye on was sold I guess I'll see if my dealer can locate anything for me elsewhere. They do have a nice access cab TRD off road model, but it's white and I don't really want another white vehicle. Pretty set on magnetic grey.
