K&N Intake Rattle

Hopefully I'm not the only one with this problem. I recently installed a K&N intake on my 07 Tacoma DC. On top of it being insanely loud at any throttle position other than idle, there is a rattle. Upon initial take-off from a stop or engine startup, I can hear the plastic from the filter/intake tube bounce off the middle filter heat shield mount (where the spacer is). I've tried adjusting everything from the support bracket to the filter to the tube where it attaches to the throttle body. It seems to work for a bit then it starts again about 40-50 miles down the road. Everything is still tight so I don't know why it keeps doing that. I do know for a fact that this is where the noise is coming from. Do you think I should just remove the heat shield or possibly attach some other support bracket? Anyone else have this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Maybe I should have passed up on this great deal.

 

is ur filter touching the heat shield at all? when i HAD my K&N i had a rattle and got rid of it by having the proper filter placement. if its touching, move it to the left a bit

 

I've tried moving the filter towards the passenger side along the intake tube with no luck. There doesn't seem to be enough room to slide it too much with the clamp still grabbing. I also moved the intake tube away from the throttle body a little bit but it still does it. I didn't want to move it too far away and have it fall completely apart. I'll try to get some pics when I get home. Thanks.

 

k, 1st do not move it away from the throttle body, not good! also check where the bracket screw is around the heat shield. it needs the proper location to not rattle, its alot of trial and error. the filter can be moved pretty far out. can you take a picture of ur filter placement?

 

mine was hitting the heatshield pulled the filter toward the side of truck. just look to see where its closest to hitting and angle it farther from it and tighten the clamps

 

It could be bumping up againest the hood struts. If you still can't find where its hitting at try putting weather striping around the edge of the air tank canister.
If that doesn't work bring it down to Arizona on the 2nd of July and I will help you out with it.

 

I know its an old thread, but what resolved it? Mine is doing the same thing and its about to drive me insane

 

Doing any offroading? The support bracket that holds the tube part of the filter bends over time which allows the filter to move and in my case, hit the wheel well.

 

ya ive been doing some off roading and have the same thing came home from camping with this horrible knocking noise on the wheel well thought it was my fender then realized it was my air intake filter hitting my wheel well.. but still havent found anyway to fix it.
