So right now in 255/85r16 we can buy the BFG KM2 tires only? and Cooper is telling us their ST-Maxx might be available in this size this Fall, correct? Fall is a couple months, so that might be good. I am running 265/75R16 Dura-Tracs and like them because no rubbing at all, but the taller tire would be nice... (if my Dura-tracs ever wear out..)

No, right now, I think BFG KM2's, Cooper Discoverer S/T's, Maxxis Bighorn's, Toyo Open Country M/T's, and Dunlop Mud Rover M/T's are the only options. Might be missing one or two though.

I will be getting either KM2's or S/T Maxx's when I need tires again. Would absolutely love the Duratrac's to come in this size though.

In TX I purchased these tires from NTB. Satisfied with the price and looks as well as the fit. But from day one regardless of an alignment and balancing a few times NTB could not get the 65 mph + vibes to stop. They chalked it up to aggressive tread pattern.

Well I packed up the truck and took off to Alaska for the summer. In Anchorage atm. On the way I added a rtt in Montana and a all pro bumper, warn z winch and lights in Calgary Canada. Point being weight. Some where in Montana I through a front left wheel weight. It resulted in several miles of wheel hop and excessive tire ware. I had to get it fixed and didn't have a chance till Calgary.

I found a national western chain store that services all size vehicles including semi trucks. They knew what they were doing. They made it clear I had wheel hop damage. Rotated them to the rear and had them balanced. No alignment was needed.

He said run them as long as you can handle the ride from the wheel hop damaged rubber. Also it took an excessive amount of weight to balance the left front tire. I was not expecting a nice ride.

To my surprise I only suffered a slight vibe from the rear driver hop damaged tire on take off. At high speeds up to 90 mph I felt NO vibrations at all.

To make a long story longer. These tires appear to offer an extra challenge to balance due to size and weight. If taken to the right shop they work out excellent .

Coming to realize my DD just is not off road enough I will try the Toyo Open Country mts next, but I do like this tire and highly recommend it if you see a bit more off road.

I just got a set of 5 used BFG Mud Terrain in this size for a nice price, they look to be 9/10 tread left and were on a Land Rover for a few months. Came with wheels fitting a LR Defender that will bolt to nothing I know of, so I have to put the tires on the ugly stock Tacoma steel wheels or spend more $ on wheels. I'd like to have the wheels be 7 or 7.5 inch wide, but all the aftermarket wheels I see for our trucks are 8" or wider. My homely stock wheels are 7", maybe I could paint them or???ugly?

There are a lot of aftermarket wheels for Tacoma's that are 7.5'' or 8''. I like the SCS F-5's (16x8) or the SCS Stealth 6's. (17x8.5) Just be wary that 255's are at their limit with 8.5'' wide wheels, and I wouldn't want to run them at their limit, especially if you aired down while wheeling.

Yep it is all the guys running 285's that need 8 or 9 inch wide wheels that the wheel market is geared to. I have a set of Konig Countersteer 16x8 wheels and like them in every way, but I am not ready to dismount the 265/75R16 DuraTrac's that are on them right now. I will ne looking for a set of good condition Tacoma factory alloys if they can fit my budget.

Ok I skimmed some of this and determined this is the size I am probably going with for my needs. Trail and light crawling use. What I'm not sure of and didn't see so sorry if this has been covered and I missed it. What trimming if any is needed for these tires on a stock rim or aftermarket steelie with same offset on a gen 2 with 2.5-3" lift? Thanks in advance and sorry again if I missed this already answered.

Shouldn't have to do any trimming with that much lift...when off-roading, you may rub on the bottom of the fender flare depending on your backspacing and alignment. If you don't have an aftermarket bumper, you will probably rub on the plastic inside the bumper, but nothing too serious.

I rubbed in both of those places. Quick trim on the backside and plate bumper solved it for me.

Putting a new allpro apex bumper on next week. So sounds like extremely minor clearancing for wheeling.

I say 2.5 to 3 because I'm waiting to see how it settles with the bumper and winch lol. I'm at 3 now

You'll be fine. I only rubbed the rear portion of the fender when hitting serious compression bumps.

So I am not shopping brands and trying to figure out which to go with. These will ONLY be used on the trail and to drive to and from the trail. I will be swapping my stock rims and tires out for daily driving so I am not too concerned with road wear, just trail use. I am mostly interested in feedback from guys who have the BFG KM2s and the Maxxis. Thanks.

I've been sub'd to this thread for a long time now as I'm strongly considering these tires for my next purchase. Everyone's trucks look sweet with these tires, but I'd just like to see more pics of these tires taken from the front or back rather than mainly side/angled views....I'm just trying to get a better idea of how skinny this size will actually look. The look isn't THAT important to me, more for functionality, but I'd still like to drool over some more pics haha. I did a google search and found 1 or 2 pics taken from the font, but if you happen to have any pics that i'd appreciate it

From what I've seen of these sizes, they look noticeably skinnier in pictures than they do in real life. Just a thought.
