Childhood Nostalgia.

Old School Batmobile had the jet exhaust, but when one of the villains managed to plant a bomb in it to blow when it hit 60, Batman opened the hood and there was a regular old air cleaner housing.

But no... the original Batmobile was really nothing special other than looking cool and having the jet exhaust. It never was a big factor in the show for it's abilities like Knight Rider, other than it did have a remote-control capability.

There was one episode where the guys were in trouble, and Batman used a remote control box with a little steering wheel to bring the Batmobile to where they were, and it shot a fishing net out in front and when the guys got launched from the Villain's death trap, they landed in the net.
It was one of the more cheesy scenes from the show, but WTF... when you were 8, it was really cool!

 

I watched all these as well, and had the Knight rider big wheels. I also watched The Fall Guy, Magnum PI, Hill Street Blues, and Dallas.

 

Had one. Awesome.

Dr Grip PhD is similar one in twist style. Has black, red, pencil, and stylus.

 

Those rocked, but even better were the "Smash Up Derby" cars where the hood, doors, and trunk exploded off of them when the pin on the front bumper was hit.

I had Thunderbird 2 with a Thunderbird 4 sub inside it. Was awesome!
