To protect the ~20% higher sticker prices in Canada, Toyota discourages/prohibits American dealers from selling to Canadians. There are ways around it, but it tends to be costly (e.g. having to pay sales taxes both in the purchasing state and when exporting to Canada).

Sport seems appropriate for your needs. If you ever tackle a more challenging trail and decide you need a rear locker, budget about $2500 to install an ARB air locker + onboard compressor.

4x4 was a MUST for me, I would have been happy with either a TRDOR or an sr5. They just happened to have aTRDOR on the lot at the time I bought so I went with that.

Pretty sure there isn't much differences in the 13 seats between the SR5 and TRD models, all models I've seen in the 13 year model (not the 12) have had identical seats and fabric. Also having owned both sport and O/R models, I chose the O/R, never know when you will need a locker. Someone else said buy and SR5 and dump $2,500 on an ARB air locker and compressor, that's a very good idea but a lot of people don't like to dump $2,500 on to a truck they just spent 30k on especially if you can't justify spending the money vs how much you will need the locker. If you are like me however, I am just going to wait until one of my diffs takes a shit and call up ECGS and have them fix me up.

The only thing I wanted on the sport was the color matched parts and no chrome. Got a color matched grille from camelback and just need a bumper... SR5 to save money and then get some sick wheels, tires and a lift!!

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
SR5 is all you need boss. Save the money on all the bullshit that is a "TRD package". If you ever find a weakness in the SR5 you can use the 5-6k you saved to make it better than a TRD ever will be.

I know that statement might cause some butthurt from the guys who bought into the hype and proudly display their worthless stickers, oh well, zero fucks given.

I bought a TRD OR because I'm not likely to upgrade anything from stock. I don't off road nearly like you guys do, mostly just pulling a snowmobile trailer into my remote camp in the winter, or fishing remote ponds and streams, or pulling my boat out of nasty boat launches. I would imagine that if you do serious off-roading than the SR5 and your money saved towards tires and lockers and suspension is the way to go. My truck will never be lifted and the tires will never be bigger than stock. If you are the kind of Tacoma owner that will want a lift, then it would have to make more sense to go SR5.

A 5.5 amp draw isn't going to kill your alternator. Otherwise my winch at 350 amp draw would blow through them like popcorn.

I dunno what the difference is where you guys live talking about 5k difference but up here in Canada it's only aboutt a 2k difference between sr5 and sport. Sr5 for like 38k and sport for 40k

Good to hear, although the drill can't pull 5.5 amps, the inverter is limited to ~3.3A. Also due to the step-up from 12V to 120V, the inverter is drawing ~33A peak.

That said I would bet the way use would kill an alternator would be heat from load. In low duty cycle usage, which is what I do, I bet the battery will provide most of the current for the load spikes, thus averaging out the load that the alternator experiences over time.

I use my 2010 OR to tow a camper and going offroad at hunting camp. The OR package is perfect for my needs though I do wish it had the color scheme of the Sport without the fake ricer scoop.

Sounds like SR5 is all you need. If it's available in Canada with the DC. LB is also nice.
