For me it was that the Taco was the perfect size pickup & got pretty decent gas mileage. Coming from a full size pickup it was too damn big to drive & park, & it got 14 mpg going down hill with a tailwind. The Taco does 80% of what a full size truck does as far as towing & hauling, except it is better to live with day to day. Also its much easier getting my kid in & out the double cab Taco than my old extended cab pickup.

    DCLB FTW

My dad worked for Toyota (corporate) from '75 to '95. He always had a company car and my mom a lease. We had every Toyota you could think of over the years, Land Cruisers, Coronas, Corollas, Cressidas, Supras, 4x4's, Lexus, etc.

I was driving a brand new Celica GTS in high school. It was technically my mom's but she rarely got any seat time. :D

I went through a muscle car phase, but eventually bought a 2000 Tacoma. It was bullet proof and never had a hiccup. I sold it last year when I bought my 2013.

Short answer = they are the best.

My buddy has a Dodge and it has been a nightmare for him. He just bought a Tundra and is trying to sell the Dodge.

I wanted a mid size truck and it was the only option not garbage. Then I decided I wanted lots of torques and traded it for a Tundra. Hoping I see the Taco around sometime. It only lasted a few days on the lot.

It was a nightmare. Issue after issue. I had a recurring CEL that would come on every other year when it was due for smog. Luckily I don't have to deal with smog anymore. Traded it in for the Taco when the tranny started to go @ 180k miles. Good riddance.

    5. I am amazed as to how many looks and stares the truck gets. I know all about it-I used to do it all the time too until I actually got my own :)

This too... tailgating at a concert last Friday, had 3 different people come up to say the truck looked great, and asked further questions about it. Always a good feeling!

Gas mileage - I had a full sized Dodge that was killing me.
Dependability - I will probably have this truck for 10 years.
Versatility - I needed something that could haul people, gear, my boat, and home improvement / maintenance crap.

You get what you pay for. A higher investment in the beginning that pays dividends.

    1-Durability
    2-Size
    3-Off Road capability
    4-Price

My dad has a 2007 DCLB, about 120K miles and no problems, unlike my Bro who is on his 3rd Ram during the same time. His first 2 were 1500's and he had problems with transmission, U-joints etc.., he now has a 2010 Diesel 2500 and still at the garage at least 3 to 4 times a yr.

The taco is a nimble, quick little truck with fairly good mileage. Easily and cheaply modified for serious off road and it can haul stuff a lot better than a car can. For me, it's the best all around vehicle which gets me to the cabin easily and doesn't cost a fortune running around town for groceries. It doubles as a utility trailer with it's bed which has been really useful during my renovations and hauling my ATV. My main complaint is fuel mileage which could probably be improved and the payload which should be bumped-up a tad otherwise, it's perfect.

I wanted a mid size truck, I liked the looks of it, liked the towing capacity, liked the offroad package and features it came with, liked the price, liked the 1.9% financing, heard Toyota was reliable, always wanted a Toyota and admired them, wasn't satisfied with the recent quality of the North American big 3 or their service departments that I've dealt with, Toyota dealer and salesman was very friendly and helpful.
