I recently bought a 2013 black crew cab Tacoma trd offroad. It's the first truck I've ever owned and I'm very eager to start customizing it. I love the truck so far but I'm trying to figure out what type of lift to get. I don't need it for offroading. I'm looking for something that rides and looks good. I'd like the front end to be slightly higher than the back but nothing crazy. Can you guys offer up some advice on what to look for? I'm thinking of getting new coilovers. But not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For the lift alone id like to spend under 1000. Like I said. I'm not looking for anything crazy. Just something functional that looks good. With the front end slightly above level. Ill also probably have to have it installed by someone so I'm trying to include that in the budget.

    Do you haul or tow?

not at the moment. but of course i'd like to leave my options open. I don't want to install something now and then have to change it later. but towing is not a high priority at all.

Just means the difference between spending $500 on a heavy duty rear leaf pack for lift and better weight capability or $100 for an add a leaf ( AAL ) that will give you more height but not better weight capability

Save yourself hundreds of dollars and buy some sand bags from Lowes or Home Depot and keep in the bed of the truck.

Why not just recommend 5100's upfront set at 2.5"? That would give you a higher front (about .5" higher than a stock Baja) and when you get sick of it, you can drop it down to 1.75" to be level and happy...?

Options remain open...only like $500 installed with the cost of a lifetime alignment at your local place of interest...rear remains the same and can be lifted later on...

I don't want to set the shocks at their highest extent. I'm thinking that some sort of coil overs are going to give me the best ride? What is the importance of lifting the back? I really like the way the baja tx sits. Ideally I'd just like something simple like that. Without having the crazy shocks in the back.

Coilover a will give you the best ride...you're correct. That option, go with OME 884 lift coils to get 2" front lift, and a similar look to the BAJA. Honestly, don't know if you need extra shocks to accommodate the extra down travel...

What if I did the 5100's with 884's? Will that give me both a good ride and the look I'm going for? Another off topic question. Are there any devices that I can install that can give me info on my average miles per gallon I'm getting and distance till empty and so forth?

Ride will be compromised, you're looking at offroad suspension which will make the on-road ride feel stiffer and some often don't like it. You're best bet is a quality coilover and rear shocks WITHOUT the rear lift. Icon coilovers up front with billy 5100's for the rear. 2.5" up front will give you a slight Cali lean and the smoothest ride. The higher you go up front the worse the ride is as you'll have less down travel.

You're not going to get Icons installed for under $1k.
5100s+885 coils would be my suggestion. Leave the rear stock for now.
I'm not sure where Corona is, but I'm sure there is a few other members close. Maybe a mod day to help you with install? Could save you some coin there.

Just do 5100's with stock coils. 5100's are not meant to be used with anything other than stock coils. it wear's them out quicker since it's a different rate then stock. Bilstein did a lot of R&D to valve and have the shock work best with stock coils. Why mess with that...

Doing it this way will Keep you within budget and give you improved ride and the look your wanting. We do this setup for under $1000 installed and aligned.
