One con is if you ever want to sell it , it would affect the price greatly

When buying a salvaged vehicle most banks and credit unions won't let you finance it through them. So it will have to be a cash or check sale. If it's not a "re-built" salvage title it will then need to be repaired and then inspected at highway patrol station that offers inspections to become a "re-built salvaged vehicle. They need full receipts and documentation. This includes all receipts for repairs (no photo copies), rebuilt salvage title inspection paper (buy from DMV for $55), purchase papers from where you bought it from.

    ????

If you referring about financing possibly. In Ohio you cannot get financing for a salvaged vehicle. Even for personal loans they still want to know what it's for, for big purchases.

Why does it have a salvaged title? Was it in an an accident?

I just went through this process. In NY, a vehicle must be totaled when damage to it exceeds 75% of its value. I can't imagine spending that kind of money on a truck that was that badly damaged.

Yeah, you're saving $6k, but that's a lot to risk on something that has a much higher potential for all kinds of problems.

No frame damage on a Taco that's totalled.
    Sounds impossible.
A wet noodle is stronger than a Taco frame.:(

Most vehicles that have "salvage" titles either have been in a accident, have very bad environmental damage (hail, flood, act of god), or major mechanical damage (engine no oil and it was a turbo diesel). When damages exceed a certain amount of vehicle value (resale) the insurance company salvages it. 75% is a good rough number to go by.

No way they total a 2012 for just that. There's got to have been more.

^ this. Most of the vehicles totaled have some kind of frame damage.

There's no way I'd spend that much on a salvage title vehicle, even if I was planning on owning it until it falls apart.

If it has a salvage title and it's a '12 with 10k on it, it absolutely did have major frame and suspension damage, or it was in a flood (VERY likely). I'd rather buy one with a replaced frame than one that's been in a flood.

For an insurance company to total a vehicle, the repairs need to be nearly 80% of the value. A 2012 with 10k? There wasn't much left of that truck when it was written off.

Same repair on my '03 Tundra. Repair bill from the shop was $8,000.

That Tacoma had WAY more damage than what you listed.

Check the car fax before you buy, especially with a salvage title. I'd say $16K is about the right price for this vehicle w/ a salvage title. It all depends on what kinda damage it had. Them asking $22k is way too much! I know it's a Toyota but like everyone has said... For a 2012 w/ 10k on the clock to be totaled, has to have had some extensive damage, more than just cosmetic. Good luck!!!

But I think you should pass this one up
