I find it a little disappointing that the seat belt has worn a notch in the plastic by the retractor on the driver's side. Like the plastic trim isn't hard enough to withstand normal seat belt operation. I have a smooth notch in the molding where the edge of my seat belt rubs as I pull it out to buckle up. Doesn't really bother me that much, it's just another "wtf?" things. Like, wtf is my new truck damaged already? (I noticed this after less than a year of ownership so it makes me wonder how the rest of the trim will hold up.)

    1. The asinine emissions control that keeps the rpms high in the middle of a shift and keeps them at 1250-1500 when moving in neutral.

    2. my 97 had a locking gas door. where the hell is it on my 08???

    3. Put the damn transfer case shift lever back in!!!!

    4. Where's the option to turn off the idiot proofing? Think factory version of the locker mod, disable ABS, etc.

Things missing from the get go...

    -Diesel option?
    -Non-carpeted version??
-The stereo, but it's not really a problem. Lost faith in factory audio by ANY make or model long ago.

Side curtain airbags should be standard. I bought a 4 door to haul my kids around and have a truck, my S10 extended cab was getting tight. Trying to find a DC, LB or SB, 4x2 or 4x4, Sport with Airbags in any color was a joke. The 2 or 3 I found on the "build your own" (south east) Toyota search engine were special orders from guys who had been waiting 6 months. I did not wait.
Weak tailgate's. I could do a triple lindy off my S10's tailgate.
Back lit 4x4 sw. (future mod)

08' X-Runner , Sirius radio, fog light mod. Much more to go.
    The Ugly list first:

    Transmission.
It just plain sucks. First gear especially. It's way too short. The syncros also are crappy. I get notchy shifting from 1-2 and sometimes 2-3. Although many people have issues with the stock shifter, I find it to be mostly OK. 6th gear needs to be taller as well so as I'm not spinning 2500+ rpm on the highway at 75-80 mph.

    Door panel Armrests.
Could that make the fabric that covers these things stain more easily? I also feel that they are too low.

    Center console armrest.
A patch of leather would go so far here! The rubber covering is both cheap and crappy feeling.

    Tachometer.
It's slow reacting. The truck has many times hit the rev limiter before the tach was at the redline in first gear.

    Gauges.
Or the lack of them from the factory. How about a factory volt and oil pressure gauge? I miss my Chevy just for those alone.

    Window controls.
Auto down only on drivers side window? No auto up, no auto anything for anything else.

    Emergency brake.
Yeah, I know it's a truck, and truck have the E-brakes in the dash board, but a lever style from the console would have been bigtime welcomed. Especially in a sport truck.

    Interior materials.
The choice of plastic for lets say the upper door panels. They scratch if you look at them wrong.

    Paint Quality.
It would be nice if the grille color matched the rest of the truck as it was supposed to. It's off in color a little bit. It was also be nice if the finish on the front fenders was smoother with less orange peel.

    Brake pedal feel.
When I first bought this truck, I was pissed with the "mushiness" of the brake pedal feel. Granted, in my Chevy I had braided brake lines, but I expected a little bit better from a Toyota.

    Engine harshness.
As we know already, the engines are noisy (4.0L) and this is "normal". It took some getting used to and it's still difficult to ignore.

    High Idle.
It's an emissions issue I know, and it's been mentioned before. I hate the way the revs hang between shifts.

    A/C compressor.
Damm this thing groans a lot at idle. GM's are silent in comparision.

Yeah, but then you would have had to pay extra for the after burner option.

Not much. Toyota bed mat, Toyota step bars, tinted windows, Toyota seat covers, Toyota all-weather mats, quart of Wild Turkey in the glove box, KelTec PT3AT in the center console, backseat full of old speeding tickets

I'm originally from north Alabama and can tell you that it can get cold as a bitch there. I have experience two ice storms and have seen temps in the teens many, many times. January and Febuary are nasty

that is a good idea, what he means is use the plastic strap holding the gas cap to the truck and lay it over the clip on the gas filler door when the door is open. Thanks for that tip, now if only I could remove the rub marks from before i knew about this...
