So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
I have hard tonneau cover now but going to tool box. So change my vote. In a few years change my vote back. K ?

Last truck I had a shell. That was for almost 12 years. But sometimes, very rarely but sometimes, they gotta come off. I could barely do it on my old Nissan and the Tacoma is substantially larger. I never thought I'd do this but the likely option is the tonneau. Like the softtopper but I'm not seeing it be waterproof, and I think waterproof is pretty desirable.

I voted for the shell, BTW, but that's not what's going on this truck.

Soft Tonneau here. Best of both worlds imo, keeps everything dry and rolls out of the way in 10 seconds.

I just got a Truxedo Lo Pro yesterday. Good looking top. I liked the nekkid look, but I need to be able to keep luggage, etc dry on trips.

That's what I have on mine. Simple, fast, and convenient. No complaints what so ever. I carry my dog in the bed every morning so it's great for that and if in a pinch I need my bed to stay dry...it's no problem.

I paid to get a Tri-hard folding tonneau cover. Too bad this weekend I had found an MGM topper in great shape for cheaper than what I paid for the tonneau cover. Piss me off!

Nekkid, I guess. No option for a toolbox?
I carry enough awkwardly shaped objects often enough that tonneau covers and caps just wouldn't work for me. I do have an older cap that I put onto it very very rarely, but mostly I just use the Canoe rack. Of course, the girlfriend got me a set of Trac Racks for our anniversary, so I'll be using those in the future instead!

Another truck vs. SUV point... If you hunt with a dog and it gets skunked you have to sit in the SUV with it, but as for me I am putting him in the back of the truck. Have had a lot of trucks and SUV's starting with a FJ55 in 1980 which was one of the first "SUV's" ever made. Most of my trucks have had toppers. Have run with lots of combinations and always come back to a topper. Because that is what works for me, but it doesn't work for everyone.

How are you defining SUV? Because Jeep debuted their Wagoneer in (I think) 1966; International-Harvester had the Travelall...

I said one of the first, not THE first. They were an oddity back then but yes the Wagoneer was early but of course it had to have wood paneling to be proper ;) I logged a lot of time in the 70's in an IH usually with a quarter keg of beer in the back. What a beast. So in 91 when I was in Dubai about the only thing I brought back to the States with me from the Gulf was an ad for a "sand cadillac". Hard to imagine an ice maker inside your rig LOL.

Don't think I even want to see what they have available in that market now that we can't get in NA.

    Oh man....
I want an Icemaker in my rig now...
KNEW I should have sprung for the TRD; just plug one into that outlet in the bed!
I wouldn't use the ice for anything (I like my whisky warm, and who puts ice in their beer?), but it'd make for some pretty awesome bragging rights.

    Person 1: "I've got bluetooth!"
Person 2: "Yeah, well, I've got an icemaker"
    Person 1:

Went back to a hard top...my third one, haha. I am pretty sure I will be getting another one if I can find a used one with the win doors.

I liked it with the softopper, but that looks great too. Your truck has really been around, and come a long way.

I have the ARE LSII series hard cover. This is the third ARE lid that I've owned. The other two were on Tundra's. I've never had a leak in any of them and they lock securely. This time I ordered the lid with the spoiler because I liked the look of it. No, it's not for better mileage!! :D
