I feel our Tacomas have just the right amount of torque and power for it's size. If I had something like a ford lightning I'd rather have that kind of power on a sports car.

Our Tacoma's are essentially the same truck as the 1st gen Tundra which was offered with the 4.7 V8.

Heard that. My buddy had one. Crew cab 4x4, bigger tires, and that thing was faster then my 5.4, while getting over 20mpg.

I like things simple, hence my base Taco...down to it's crank windows and manual tranny. The 2.7L is all the engine I need. I have no use for a 6 cylinder, much less an 8.

But back on topic, I wish they would offer the 5.7L V-8 in the 2015 Tacoma...

I wish they would offer a diesel and a V8 option as well as updated engines from this generation

Now...a base truck with a manual tranny and a diesel...that I would take.

Sounds like a great option. I don't know how many people feel the same way.

I would only consider it IF it got the same or better MPG. If I wanted to do heavy work I would go with a Tundra.

My last truck was an 81 Chev short box with a 350. Lot's of power and built like a tank. All Steel bumpers, differential lock, skid plate. Put that thing through hell and back again in the bush. And it still runs. It can pull a 6000 pound 24 foot camper with ease.

My 2013 Access Cab V6 Tacoma is a little narrower, and about the same length. A smaller motor then the Chev had but lighter. Probably not as good for rough off roading or pulling the camper. Will see over time. The Tacoma gets about 25 Imperial gallons on the highway, the Chev got about 17.

I think a V8 would be too big for a Tacoma, but I would certainly get a diesel.

    i had a 4.7 in my 2000 lx470 and in my 2004 lx470.

All i have to say is that the 4.7 is probably the smoothest engine i have owned. The 4.0 in my 2012 tacoma feels unbalanced and is noisy.

I towed a 33 foot off shore boat from LA to Vancouver with the 4.7. People were amazed that the truck could pull that boat. One mountain pass in Northern california we ran at 5k rpm for nine minutes uphill in first gear. A true torture test and no issues.

If the taco had the option i would check that box.

Also for a fairly expensive truck why doesn't the taco have a automatic temp control?

Gas mileage, although one of the best for a mid sized truck still sux so why make it worst with a V8

for a 1-2 mpg difference a v8 would be totally worth it
