I'm sure you're all going to say do it no matter what I say but I'm looking at options. I've never done a build and not the most mechanically savvy so if you reply try not to use abbreviations and such. I won't be doing a ton of off-roading.

I'd like to do front and rear plate bumpers. But I'm running with a 4 banger, is the weight going to be too much for me? Eric's work at Relentless Fabrications has really caught my eye. And I'd be willing to drop the money for them no problem.

I'd like to do a one inch lift similar to this .

My questions are: What would I need to do to achieve the lift, not in a cheap manner but to do it right (shocks/struts/etc??)? Will added weight with plate bumpers not do well with the 4 cylinder? Last I looked there was a 1 year wait on Relentless Fab's orders, is there something similar quality that would be out sooner? I'm pretty partial to Eric's work at the moment but don't want to wait a year, I've got ADD and I'll change my mind 12 times before the parts come.

Some of this Some of that
Well if your planning on plate bumpers you should probably ditch the bodylift and upgrade the suspension. That's a lot of weight for the stock springs to take, maybe get some bilstein 5100s with eibach springs up front and bilsteins out back with an add a leaf. Nice cheap setup to carry the weight of those bumpers

to get a lift, replace the front with coilovers, if you have the coin go for high end ones by King, Icon etc. to lift the rear but new leaf packs Dakars, Deavers, or contact 4WD about a spring refurbishment...actually do the last one first. include extended travel shocks for rear.

you'll still go places with plate bumpers but slower, a little sluggish. if you think it's gutless now it won't get better. but the armor is nice to have. basically you'll drive a small tank for anything 30" and below. there should be a thread with all the bumper options for 1st gens with pics around here somewhere

Do leaf springs alongside new shocks? Or with the stock ones?

yes, not only are the stock shocks going to dampen poorly, they won't allow the suspension to travel fully. you will run the risk of either ripping them apart or over compressing them

As I understand it, you need to get a specific coil over kit (like so: http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com...e-coil-over-kit-for-Bilstein-5100s_p_361.html) to use the Eibach Springs, cause they don't work with the Factory Strut Assembly (I think because the springs are cut flat on the top and bottom); is that right?

there's two eibach coils that look similar. one is flat top and bottom for coilover kits, the other is flat top, round bottom for stock style coilovers.

    Thanks!
If I can bother you again...

Is the 620# Eibach the one you're talking about designed for stock
    [IMG]

And the Eibach 600# the ones that are used in the Toytec Coil Over and the ones in kits

Yeah those will work, they're arguably better than eibachs because it's a whole coilover package

Okay what's the draw of that guy changing to a Toytech setup then? And do you know if a front and rear set up for a 1996-2002(3rd gen) 4Runner aftermarket would fit a first gen tacoma?

yes front ends of taco and runner are the same.

what's the drawback? nothing really other than adjustability. the fabtechs are adjustable almost down to the millimeter
