Extended brake necessary lines for a 3" lift ??

    Thats the question - i ordered my toytec 3" lift kit but I wanted to know if the oem brake lines will suffice for that lift or will i need longer ss lines ?

    Extended lines are good cause they are usually stainless steel braided...which improve braking response.

    Not necessary...but I'd recommend them. The set on my sport bike have saved my life several times.

    I had a set of ss lines on my jeep srt8 and when i hit a large dip in the road and got some air the ss line snapped because it didnt have the flexibility of a rubber line. That was a defect in the manufacturer of the ss lines but it just shows that there are downfalls to even ss lines

    It may have snapped due to over extension. SS lines are Braided to allow flexing in the line, just not axpansion due to line pressure.

    You were airborne in a Jeep ...There aren't MANY stock replacement parts that could withstand that or are designed for it. You called it a "defect" in SS lines, paired with an unintentional mis-use of your ride-Sounds like a singular event. Folks use SS lines in desert runners and race trucks all the time.

    Yea i think the manufacturer never extended the length of the line to accomodate such a "freak incident" - lol wasn't fun landing either - got a good inch or 2 in the air for a few feet. Landed and barely got back straight after squiggling around the road a little

    Luckily at the time i had 315/285 tires and the suspension was pretty modified. I do miss the jeep for that reason, it handled incredibly for such pig with some links, bars, etc

    I've seen/heard of more failures due to a SS line than OEMs, my racecar (which I have plenty of good pedal feel in) has oem rubber lines. I generally consider that good fluid condition is gonna have a bigger impact along with ratio of piston areas(master cylinder to calipers).

    I agree. After that incident ss lines really isn't that important in my opinion. Some good Dot4 and proper caliper/pad setup/compound is more ideal

    All of my most recent dragsters have had full braided SS setups as required by the rule book. At one point in time this was not mandatory, since going to the full braided setup we have had more line leaks then ever before. :rolleyes: Go figure.

    The braided lines are Russell's so quality is definitely not the issue here.
