Leaf spring TSB for 2013 Tacoma?

You need to read the article I did. It stated that in today's day and age, the terms '1/4 ton' and 'half-ton' are no longer applicable, as trucks are having a much more increased payload these days. Although now I see that as a lie, seeing as how they state a certain payload, but in reality can't do it.

 

If they put 600lb payload nobody would buy them. My 06 had the 3 leaf pack and i often put about 800 lbs on it without completely bottoming out. I thought that was pretty good. Some guys on here would think that sucks and demand a new rear suspension?

 

Well, I would if I bought a truck advertising a 1200 lb payload capacity.

 

There is no fix for it though really cause the tsb springs aren’t any stronger. IDK why toyota rate’s the tacoma’s payload as high as the tundra. That don’t make sense to me?

 

Tundra is 1500 or more...Tacoma is only 1250

also says my crewmax rockwarrior was 1410

From the minute I got my truck, I knew I was going to pull a travel trailer, so the first thing I did (well second thing, cause it came with an aftermarket daver leaf spring on the driver side that was making the clunck and replaced it with a OEM three leaf spring from a junk yard) was to install the ride rite air spring from Firestone and fill them to 5psi. I did not loose on riding comfort, and can throw whatever I want on the bed without moving an inch. Just fill bags as needed.

 

How much does passenger weight affect the tail? Topper + 4 occupants (160lb apiece?) + hiking gear for each in the back, it felt like I was bottoming out over bumps.

 

Realistically, These trucks MAX payload is probably about 4-500 and thats INCLUDING driver and accessories.

Now then. With All-pro's expo pack...I literally have a box of rocks and dirt, probably around 250-300 lbs just to soften them up a bit. (Camper shell and Plate bumper in the works)

 

All the tacoma ads show them hauling a couple dirt bikes or a 450 sport quad. Its never really heavy stuff. I would say 800lb max. I think thats good. Some people wont agree with me. Max tongue weight is around 650.

I can not put one 4 wheeler(648lbs. Wet) in the back of my '07 access cab without it bottoming out. Add my bag & i (another 200lbs.), for a total 848lbs.
This is nowhere near the gwv listed in my tacoma manual. Bottom line, the stock springs suck, & if u r going to use this as a truck u need to modify the springs.

I don't need to research. I've read all these threads for years about how the tacoma's springs suck. It's not the springs it people trying to haul too much weight on a 1/4 ton small pick up. If you want to haul a half ton then go buy a half ton truck.

My Canadian truck came with the 4 leaf pack stock , I hauled a 300 lb tool box and tools for 6 months and they lost 1 1/2" in height and stayed there with the box taken out

Its not peoples fault that Toyota tells them that their truck can haul a certain amount, when in reality its about half of that number.

 

Idk why toyota says a small truck with a plastic bed can haul 1200 lbs. I do understand holding them to it though. But they're not gonna fix it. Because if they did the truck would ride like a chuck wagon an nobody would buy them.
