well worth doing. doesn't take long, and more importantly than keeping you rwinch from not activating.......you REALLY don't want your winch to get stuck on. that can both be very unsafe, as well as have the potential to shred the front of your bumper.

Snorkel shipped today, and the Volant intake arrived today. so today started the snorkel process. tossed the intake in. real easy, only abotu a 15 minute job to remove my home made one and install the new one.

first impression is that it's a quality kit with a nice fit and finish.

still plenty of room under the hood, which was the goal of figuring out how to hook up the snorkel to one of these instead of a stock intake.

been wanting a nice dremel for a while now, so i figured cutting up my fender was the perfect opportunity. last time i installed a snorkel, the dremel turned out to be the perfect tool for the job. opted for the 4000, which was the most powerful one home depot had in stock. I really liked it because of all of the attachments too. circle cutting attachment/jig may come in handy for this.

taking as many precautions as i can to keep this whole thing water and dust tight. come snorkel install, i will replace the hardware the hold the filter box in place with these steel washer/rubber seal combo. additionally, they will be globbed up with a heavy duty marine grade sealant.

also ordered a 4''-3.5'' polyurethane reducer, which will hopefully allow my to connect the snorkel to the filter box without having to perform any modification to it. all connections will be sealed up with the same marine sealant.

it also turns out that the last two wheeling trips have put a beating on my exhaust, specifically the y-pipe. first dent is sizable, but not something i would worry about if it were the only issue

unfortunately it gets worst. took a real big hit right at where the Y-joint is. it was hard to get a good picture with the lighting, but the pipe has been crushed to about half of the size. additionally, it partially broke the pipes apart at the weld. so now i know why my exhaust has sounded so crappy for the last two weeks.

Guess the long tube headers and urd y-pipe just moved up tot the top of the list.

The dremmel 4000 is a good choice - it comes with a ton of attachments and bits.
I've burned up about 3 different ones in th last few years.

Don't lock up th tool at 20,000 RPMs like I do and you'll be fine.;)

    slow and steady ;)

can't go too slow though since i'll be doing this in the parking lot of an extended stay apartment/hotel complex

i considered the 8000 or the 8100, whatever the big battery one is, but after a little thinking, i realized that i am very very rarely without ac power. even out on the trails, i have enough AC amperage to turn 50 dremels.

shipping confirmations recieved. Spectre poly reducer and clamps get here tomorrow, and snorkel gets here on monday. I guess that's the plus to being in a land-locked state in the middle of the country, everything gets here really quickly.

if everything fits the way I think it will, i'll have it done monday evening after work......which means i'll have it done tuesday.

Sure, i'll be doing it (starting it) on monday, assuming i have all of the parts i need. worst case, we get to have some beers in the parking lot

yeah, this'll be my 3rd snorkel install, first one was on a land rover (interesting how differently a dremel handles aluminum body panels), second was on a 2nd gen tacoma, so i'm fairly familiar with the process. byproduct is that i've also had snorkel envy for quite a while now

what other swb just got a snorkel?

i have no idea what the inlet to the trd looks like, but i'd imagine it's not the same as a volant (or any other intake), so the fittings and/or modification needed will most likely differ.

Figured out what will be at least a temporary mount for the TJM treds. picked up some of those auto-spooling ratchet straps. holds the treds securely, anddoesn't leave any loose ends to flap in the wind. when they aren't stacked on one another, they actually sit very low profile. at 5'9'', i can barely see them behind the lights when i stand in front of the truck.
