If everything is rusting, then it isn't a Toyota frame rust-protection issue. OP is in a very corrosive environment.

Do 2005+ Tacos still have proportioning valves, or is everything handled by the ABS module as part of the electronic brake force distribution (EBD) feature?

My 96 Taco was part of the big buyback. I bought it new & took very good care of the frame .Wire brushed & painted every year. The frame looked pretty darn good for 13 years old. Then two guys I know had their Tacos checked at the dealer .They failed the inspection .both of their trucks were bought back by Toyota. I loved my truck & didn't think that I had a problem. After seeing what happened to these two guys, I took my truck in for an inspection. Well the frame looked good on the outside ,but rusted through from the inside. I was sure Toyota had figured out the problem by now & bought a new 09. Now I am starting to get a little worried. Crap !!!!! Not again !!!!!!!

    Well, here is Toyota's response

"According to your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), 5TEUU42N26******, there are no known issues or current recalls relating to frame rust for your 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The Corrosion Perforation Warranty is valid for 5 years, regardless of mileage, from the date of first use. Our records indicate your vehicle's date of first use is 07/13/2006.

Since your vehicle is outside of the warranty parameters, Toyota is unwilling to offer any assistance for your frame rust. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you."

    Toyota reliability - not
    Customer care - not

I'm pulling the trigger on a Fluid Film package kit, to include a flex nozzle that I can spray/fog into the boxed in part of the frame up front. While I'm not exactly happy that I've got alot of surface scaling on my frame, front diff needle bearing needs to be replaced and shit ass leaf springs, fixing the stuff is still cheaper than a truck payment for a new vehicle at this point.

I wire brushed & treated the frame with "Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer". This stuff turned the orange rust to a hard black surface ,brushed on. I let it dry/cure for three days & hand painted the spots with Rust-Oleum paint. Now I will overcoat with spray paint. Only time will tell.

wow, that looks very bad. sorry toyota is not doing anything to help. it does seem like premature rot.

my truck in a 2006 and has spent its entire life in north east ohio with 6 month winters and a lot of salt, and while i do have rust on my frame, it is NOTHING compared to the photo you showed. something seems strange.

Make me not want to buy a Toyota/Lexus vehicles

Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

We are sorry to hear the concerns you are having with the frame on your 2005 Tacoma and apologize this aspect of the vehicle did not meet your expectations.

The warranty coverage for the frame is 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first from the vehicle’s date of first use. Once the vehicle is outside of these warranty guidelines the cost of repairs becomes the owner’s responsibility.

In the interest of customer satisfaction, Toyota may review individual requests even when the factory warranty has expired.

We have reviewed your circumstances, taking into consideration such factors as the vehicle's age and mileage in comparison to the manufacturer's original warranty, the nature of the repair, and any prior maintenance and repair history.

While we regret that you incurred this expense, your request for reimbursement has been declined.

Toyota values you as a customer, and we appreciate this opportunity to further review your request.

Your email has been documented at our National Headquarters under file #1305081604.

You gotta check your frame frequently when you live in the salt belt

Better news. The day I got the email from Toyota saying there was no warranty coverage, two interesting things happened.

    1) Frustrated by the email, I went to local Toyota dealer #1, and said I had a low mileage 2006 Tacoma with a frame with holes, what we they give for it in trade on a new Tacoma. One deal yielded $13,500. Another deal yielded $13,000 for the truck in trade. This was good news, and they said they would have no trouble selling my truck. I said I wanted to think about it.

    2) When back home that night, there was a call from local dealer #2, where a Toyota factory rep had inspected the truck, saying Toyota would replace the frame.

So I think I learned to go to the local dealer first rather than start higher up.

The frame will be built by Toyota in Kentucky with internal rust proofing. I'll post again when the frame swap is done. Takes 2-3 weeks to get the frame then 1-2 weeks for the swap.

That is exciting news. Now that the early models are starting to see frame replacements, hopefully this will pass through to all later models as time and age permits.

I just lost my 04 to the frame rust issue. When will Toyota figure this frame rust thing out?
