There's got to be a truck or two on here with caps on them.
I am looking for one myself and am between Leer and ARE.
    Any thoughts?
Furthermore, post up your truck's pic with the cap on it please if ya got one.
    Thanks,
    -Nic

I like the Leer's. I've had them on my last 2 trucks and this one. I think the quality is very good, and they fit. There are many different options and models. I have the LR100R with a rack. Check out my pictures.

I don't have any experience withe ARE.

Here is one, and you may visit my photos to see more angles of it. LEER XQ100 Browning Edition. Basket is not included.

Hope this can help you make a decision.

When I bought my Taco about a month ago I decided I wanted a cap. I dickered and argued with the parts guy, all I wanted was a basic cap...very basic, I wasn't nice. He finally caved to my price. They installed it yesterday...wow. Now I feel bad I was so hard on him. Top line fiberglass, interior lights, exterior lights and 3 sliding windows, they even trimmed the lip so my sliding tie-downs worked. Plus custom paint.

hey, sorry i don't have a camera so i can't take pictures of my truck. but i have the leer 100XL. it's okay. it's the cheapest one for the "clean" look. the cap itself is good quality, but all the latches and hardware are really cheap. and the lock really sucks. hopefully when those things break i can replace them with quality stuff. it looks similar to the one mvega1969 has. a little different in style, and only the rear 1/4 of my side windows vent open while the entirety of his side windows vent open, i believe. if you want one with a clean look like that, don't get the leer 100XL, bite the bullet for more quality. also, i don't know who makes such a thing (i know snugtop makes one but you can't get snugtop in the east unless it's special order on a new truck) but if you have the option get one with a skirt or awning of some kind that sheds the water from behind the lift glass and out the sides when it's open. if it's raining and my glass is up all the water just dumps into the back of the truck, all over my tools. it's really annoying. i hope you find a good one! good luck!

I like the trac rack on that cap, how is loading stuff on it?
If you were to load a ladder would you have to lean the ladder on the cap b4 it rested on the rack itself?
    Thanks again

I've carried a ladder a bunch of times, and no, it does not touch the cap. Actually, in the position it is in in my pictures, it might touch. The bars slide along a track forward and back. I have moved the rear bar back since that picture, and ladders do not touch.

I do have running boards that I stand on to tie things down. And the bumper, although short, for tying down the rear.

I bought the Leer M180 with the Browning Edition.

I really liked the looks of the canopy - and felt the extra 4inches in height would be a bonus if I went camping and slept in the back of the truck.

I don't know how to post pictures in this reply -- but I posted pics on my profile if you want to see it.

At any rate, have a great weekend and good luck on your selection. You won't be dissappointed on whatever you buy.

I have the ARE on my truck and like it I went with the raised roof line for headroom getting in and out of the back . The quality is good Ive got factory installed lights ,carpet, a tilt down front slider for easy cleaning, yakima roof racks ,and no frame tilt out vent side windows. So far its been a real good useable cap and I would recomend . Leer didnt seem to offer to many options for my truck according to thier site so that is why I went ARE

The ARE options that you had installed are the exact same ones as the Lear MX180 that I had installed. Our canopies look almost exactly the same -- and have the same options. I have to be honest.... I like the glass window that you have on your canopy.

I didn't know that was available on the ARE otherwise I would have seriously considered your canopy. The only counterpoint to the ARE is that the LEER had the Browning Edition which includes a guncase installed on the canopy ceiling. I love my guncase for stowage and security.

Otherwise.... you have a better looking canopy.

    Respectfully.

I just got an 08. Ordered it with the Snugtop and so far I have been very happy with it. I like the lines and the it seems very solid.

thanks for the compliment on the cap viper but the top window on the front of the cap serves no purpose other than for looks it does not allow sunlight into the truck bed and can not be opened although it does break up that area to make it look nice . I looked at the leer caps and called them they told me they had only two models to fit my reg cab so I called ARE they seemed to have more options for my truck I would have bought leer but I think my reg cab limits my options for leer or maybe I just spoke to the wrong dealer or person at the leer dealer ?? I will say the ARE cap was pricey with the options I got installed but I wanted it done right the first time and am happy with the purchase

hey AK backcountry! was that picture taken in arkansas? i've never been there in winter, but that's more snow than we got in mass this winter! also, the snugtop cap does look super slick! nice job! i think you can only get it here if special order, and i'm under the assumption that you can't haggle on a special order. truck looks good, man!
