Whats the OD of the coil springs? Aren't they something like 4"? Any concerns with them hitting the frame or steering components? Looks like they are hugging the shock body pretty tight. Just a thought.

The dual rate slider is about 1/4" larger in diameter than the springs themselves, so I have been using the slider to check clearances/etc. If the slider clears the springs will.

    But yeah...they're big!

careful not to let the LT guys see that sch 40 pipe, they'll shit their racing seats

are you using a shop press, or a little portable hydraulic unit for the dimple dies?

Neither...bolt on dimple dies. Two die halves with a 3/4" dia bolt and a thrust bearing along with my electric impact. MUCH more versatile than normal...hell I can put a dimple in the middle of a 4x8 sheet...you're not doing that with a press unless its got a HUGE throat.

As an actual design engineer I know I am ok using pipe. People like to throw around terms like DOM to sound billy-bad ass. Hell I could design a cage out of 2x4's stronger than some DOM cages I have seen. Its all about designing for the material being used.

The wall thickness is greater (.140" vs .120") but its a trade-off for the lower yield strength. But eh its what I have bender dies for and is easier for me to get. Plus I am never going to get my pile SCORE tagged anyway, lol. :D

Nice, did you piece together the die set yourself, of buy it as a "kit"? I have a shop press, but like you said, doesn't do much if my plate is more than two feet wide.

And i hear ya on pipe/vs tube, thats why i made the poke at the lt tube guys. I'm an engineer as well. because of my current job, i do a lot more process and systems engineering, but my education is hightly structural.

I use pipe for all of my builds as well, weather they are for my or a customer. same reason, it's what i have dies for, and i can build it to suit any strength requirement with a little mathematical pre-build work.

I bought some a while back off pirate from a vendor named barbedwireoffroad...then he got divorced and his wife got the shop equipment.

A few months ago he got back into producing them on the side. His name is Craig Mosley phone (903) 348-4727. They are kinda pricey but there is almost 1/2" extra material on each die to facilitate the clamping by the bolt. They can also be used in a press without the bolt. He calls them bolt-on dies.

EDIT: He had a few small sets on ebay a month ago but theres nothing there now. Call him if you're interested but be patient as its a side thing for him. I have a 1", 1 1/2", and a 2".

Here is my best work I did with the dies...built the cover from one piece by scoring and bending, but dimpled it all first:
