2009 leaf springs question

Hi all! I'm in the process of working with dealers to see if they can get my leaf springs TSB done. Mine is TRD so I guess the shocks are OK.

However, the most frequency comment I got from dealers is that the 09 model already has the "upgraded" leaf springs. I cannot find the part number when looking at the leaf springs according to other posts. My guess is the dealer who sold me this truck have already pulled them the white labels off. But there's definitely only 3 spings.

My question is: is there really a thing called upgraded 3-leaf rear suspension? Or it is total shenanigans from dealers?

 

The part numbers should be painted on the top of each spring. Original equipment is 2 leafs and an overload leaf (aka 3) and nothing has changed to date that I know of, at least not in the U.S. Read the latest TSB. It has all the numbers and pertinent info.

I went to look at the number and the full string is:

CHI 48210-04550-G RH 020608

It DID match the part number on the TSB. However, I think I read in one post that -G was supposed to the upgrade of -F? Is that a real upgrade or just a rename of a old part?

We have two dealers in Tucson. At this point, both told me that I have already had the "upgraded" leaf springs. But my rear suspension is still saggy as H**L. :-((

 

This "upgrade" stuff is a load of crap.

New part designs get new part numbers.

The rear leaf issues have been showing up in plenty of 09s. The only reason I can fathom Toyo hasn't added them to the TSB is they don't want to undercut dealers that still have 09 inventory on the lot.

In all likelihood, 09s will be added to the TSB in early 2010. But then, they may not...best results so far have been to take the issue up with Toyota's customer service and keep pushing pushing pushing until they cave.

 

Was the rest of the part number the same except the F or G? If so, Toyota likely changed something to assign a later revision level "G".

 

Yeah. As I said, there are only two dealers here in Tucson. One of them simply blew me off directly. And the other gave me the "upgraded leaf springs" s**t and then told me that they will contact Toyota to see there's any "engineering" solutions. It is pretty much like rolling dice because they said specifically in their exam report that: the truck already had the upgraded part and show no sign of bottoming out (they meant that there's no hitting mark...).

Man I don't know why there's soooooooo much hassle. Had I not been worried about voiding my warranty, I'll even start to look for after market solutions.

Right now it seems that my only option if I got rejected again is to drive all the way up to Phoenix and have a dealer there inspect the truck. I called a Phoenix dealer and they told me that they had to look at my truck first. The good thing is that this one at least promised that they would load the truck and see what it does.

My final resort is to call Toyota every month (maybe every week) until they added 09 into the TSB.
