I finally saved enough to buy a plate bumper for my '06 DCSB 4x4, and started shopping around, and I am between the Relentless DIY Bumper and the All-Pro, either with the middle (summit/prerunner) loop and fogs. But then I showed them to my wife and she says that she doesnt like how they look... So now I am confused, she doesnt care a ton, but doesnt like the "boxy" look.

On a similar note, I was going to get the DIY Relentless because my friend has a 220 stick welder, and is a certified bridge welder and is very excited to weld up a bumper, but neither of us have done this before, and I dont know how to weld. Do you think this will be a nightmare? My friend and I are both engineers and very handy, and he is a very good welder, and we both enjoy doing things ourselves, it is nice to have a story behind things, rather than just "Hey look at what I bought...".

Finally, any recommendations on plate bumpers? Is the All-Pro any good compared with the Relentless? Or others? I dont need a plate bumper anytime soon, so I will wait for the next GB. I also dont have plans to mount a winch, I just think they look awesome and like the added benefit of higher entry angles.

If I dont get a bumper, then I will likely get some under armor, IFS Skid/Trans/Transfer Case, I already have sliders.

    Thoughts?

If you get relentless, prepare to wait 6 months. Not sure about the DIY version, but a built version has an extremely long wait period, with that being said, mostly all of his customers have been satisfied. I love the look of the all pro apex myself, and bruteforce fab's bumper along with pelfreybilt's bumper, it would be a coin toss between the 3.

My DIY kits are typically about a 2 week lead prior to shipping. Complete fab, ya those are like 6mo as stated since I'm still a bit under-manned around the shop.

Do you think it can be done with a 220 stick welder?

Definitely! Wont be quite as easy as using a MIG but I dont see any reason a stick couldnt be used.

Well, I had saved enough for a plate bumper and a fire gun safe, and went to price the safes and do some more research, found out what I thought I was going to spend on a safe was very wrong (low) and now the $1.8k I had saved up is almost all going to a gun safe which I need more now...

Considering a Liberty Colonial 30 or 23, or a Summit Safe Teton, I wasnt impressed nor did I feel safe going with a Cannon or Stack-On after I saw them the other day, which was what I originally thought I was going to get for about a grand, now I am going to spend $1400 to $1600 on a safe, leaving nothing left for a bumper. Now to start saving all over again for the bumper.

Likely will get a Hi-Lift now since the bumper is on hold.

Happy wives are very important. However, skimping or not doing what you want with your truck is huge. As long as money permits, fixing up your ride to meet your dreams is well worth it. Will the mod put a smile on your face every morning? If so, do it, you won't have regrets.

Easy there guys, it wont be an overriding factor, she never said I couldn't get the bumper, just that if she had $600-700 in spare cash, she wouldn't spend it on a plate bumper. My wife and I share all of our money and accounts, so big stuff like this are joint decisions, but I usually get what I want; she didnt think lifting my truck, nor bigger tires, nor sliders were a good idea, but I have all of those things now.

The gun safe it priority one, the bumper it priority two, just need to start doing some more handyman jobs on the side to raise the extra funds. Or hope that the safe I want goes on sale :D. Anyone have a safe moving dolly that I can borrow?

Bumper is back on, found the same safe at lowes, Liberty Colonial 30 or the FatBoy Jr for a lot less, and I have an appliance moving dolly, ordering the safe today. Now Relentless news to run a Labor Day Sale, nudge nudge... :)

My vote is for Pelfrey. I've spoken with them and that's the way I'd go if I were to do a plate bumper. The rear is only 10lbs more and the front is about 60-70lbs more. Solid construction and craftsmanship. Good customer service as well.

And good on you for treating your marriage like a marriage. Some of the kids don't know the phrase "happy wife happy life". What you should do is get your bumper and get her a fancy purse or something.

I had the All Pro bumper. Loved it for about a month, then I started to feel like a redneck. Couldn't wait to get rid of it.

You can, but you better really know how to stick weld if you care about how it looks.

Most guys will get better appearance with a MIG.

You could also TIG it, but that would take forever.
