    Hi,
I have a 2013 with TRD package with leather seats. Recently, while cleaning my truck I closely looked at my seats and I realized that my seats might not be genuine leather, but synthetics. Am I correct?
Places checked were corner of backseat and headrest.

As fas as I know that's because it is not supposed to be genuine leather.

    Of their website:
"Technology can still be luxurious. Tacoma Limited offers front and rear seats trimmed with SofTex®, a revolutionary material that is soft like leather, but weighs half as much. It’s also easier to clean and generates around 85% fewer volatile organic compounds than normal synthetic leather."

Most likely that is a dealer installed leather package. When I ordered my leather, only the face of the seats was real leather. The sides and back are not

This. It's pretty openly advertised that it's not genuine leather.

    Yes. Mine were dealer installed.

Yes, but mine isn't a limited version of the package. There is nothing in my purchase list about Softex.

It's just not real leather, it's pleather lol. So don't buy into any "leather conditioning" or "leather protection" packages, because you can just clean it with any old soap and water mixture and spray some 303 aerospace protectant on it if you want to keep it decent.

My '13 Limited came with these SofTex seats, I think they are very nicely made.

Toyota replied with info on these seats. The part where your buttom meets the seat is genuine leather. Everything else is vinyl. Oh well, I wish I knew that before purchasing the leather package. I'd gone the aftermarket way and pay 1/2 for the same item.
    One learns something every day.

I have an old friend that is an engineer at the Georgetown Toyota plant. He started in seats. He told me years ago that Toyota has leather seating surfaces. Only the part you sit on is leather, the rest is vinyl. Toyota seems to be moving towards more synthetics these days.

Whats the appeal of leather? It just seems like a pain in the ass during winter when your skin welds to the seat and in winter it's cold as balls o.o

Real leather actually warms up very quickly in the winter. And the summer is not bad at all. I have mine with perforations and it helps a ton.

I wish we could get real leather seats from the factory...
That's the reason I bought a frontier before the Tacoma, then I quickly got rid of it because i'd rather have a taco with cloth than a frontier with leather.

I dunno, I don't notice a difference until I spill something. I can clean a leather seat with a cloth. But cloth seats are a bitch to clean spills and mud stains off of.

The only cars that have genuine leather are really high end cars, such as Bentleys.

    too many to list
This is very common for aftermarket leather seats as well. A buddy of mine worked for the dealer and most kits he installed were katzkin kits that most of us have.
