Do you check your oil?

1-2 months depending on how often I use the truck along with tire pressure. Quick check on my daily, once a month.

I wouldn't worry about checking oil more often regardless of miles unless oil level is low before an oil change.

 

Oil is for chumps. I don't use oil.

 

Unicorn tears have far superior lubrication characteristics than oil.

 

I do time to time.
I park the same place at work and home and make sure the ground is clear on both every day I walk to the truck.
No dripping, then it should be fine so check when I can.

 

No because these trucks don't ever lose or drip oil. Change it every 4,000 +/- miles (3,000-5,000).

 

I check mine every fill up. I do wish I had an oil pressure gauge on it from the factory. I added one on my car along with an oil temperature gauge and monitor those and adjust my driving habits accordingly.

IMHO all the oil light on the dash tells you is that you did expensive damage to your motor as unless Toyota is different, the light will not illuminate unless the pressure is under some ridiculously low value (like 5 psi or so).

 

On this truck I check the oil once a month, along with the other fluids and check the tire pressure.

 

Check it when I'm under the hood. Maybe once or twice a month on average.

 

Unless you have a burner or leaker, the Toyota's just don't use oil, when I first switched to synthetic, I had to add about 1/2 quart the first 5000 miles, but never had to add since....remember, when you fill the 3.4L, it takes a bit more than 5.1 quarts to fill, you are already a bit low even though you may think you are full up....I have an extra quart that last three oil changes before another is needed to top off at change time...

I check the oil maybe two, three times between changes....

 

I check mine if I sense something isn't right, or typically check every couple of weeks or so. One thing I always do is look for drips when I park and when walking back to the truck. That's always been a habit of mine since getting into the car buisness. Check the pavement below any vehicle for any signs of any kind of leaks. If I ever see a puddle that I don't remember being there when I parked the truck then I definently check the oil, trans, and radiator fluid just to be safe.

 

I check my Oil about every 2000 Km and change every 8000 Km.
I also look for wet spots on the ground (touch wood )
none yet with 192,000 Km's.

 

I think i might lose more oil constantly checking my dipstick than my engine burns...

 

...It reminds me to change it out. If I never checked the oil it would be outta sight, outta mind...

 

I have checked the oil (in the sense of the term we're using here) about 4 times since I have owned my 2000 Tacoma. 208,000 miles.

I do my own oil changes ~5k miles and pay attention to how the truck drives. It doesn't leak. These engines don't burn oil... and if they do, there is something seriously wrong and I'd be able to tell. If I ever get indicators that something is amiss, I'll start checking. I guess that makes me an irresponsible jackass, wouldn't be the first I've been accused of that!
